WFP - Locking already translated segments Thread poster: Lucia Messuti

Hi All,
I've WFP latest version.
There is one thing I cannot find, or perhaps there isn't.
After translating the document (or in case I receive an already translated file), to review the translation I pass from one segment to the other.
When I go to next segment (Alt+DownArrow) the TM is retrieved and the segment is modified according to the TM, although I've another transaltion in that segment which should remain as is and not comply with the TM.

I would like the TM remains just a proposal (such as other CATs) and let me decide wheather to implement the proposed TU or leave it as is.
Is there a way for this? Or maybe lock them?
A second thing, always concerning TM.
In a document folder a Fuzzy TM was created. Is it related to the "Write unedited fuzzy and exact segments to a TM"?
Thanks a lot!

Try navigating using Ctrl (or Cmd if on a Mac)+Down Arrow instead of Alt+Down arrow and activate "Perform TM Lookup automatically under Preferences > Translation Memory. This should resolve your problem.

I don't quite understand the situation.
Good luck,

Hi John
thanks fo ryour tip. However, if I use CTRL instead of ALT,
- I don't commit the segment to the TM
- I have the same problem and the translation in the reference TM is retrieved anyway.
I usually activate "Perform TM lookup automatically", but how could this solve my problem?
As the the second question, "Write unedited fuzzy and exact segments to a TM" it is a preference in the TM. But I don't understand what it is used for.

Ctrl+Down should not retrieve TM content to Editor. It is just for browsing through segments up or down.
When you do Alt+Down it commits your current segment and leverages next segment from selected TM.
Is your question was, not to update TM and not to leverage from TM either? Can you add step by step points on what you want to do?

Regarding "Write unedited fuzzy and exact segments to a TM" when this option is checked then Fuzzy segments (yellow color on target) and 100% match segments (green color on target) and Machine Translated segments (orange color on target) will be committed to TM.
Thank you,
