Vestland
Men kva skjer no?
Translation - English The green shift in the west
Western Norway
People have lived here for several thousands of years, and have worked courageously, boldly and skilfully – fishing, hunting, turning the soil and building world-leading industries.
That is our past, but what about the future?
We need to reduce our emissions. We must do better to protect our environment. We have to create sustainable businesses that employ more people, and we must increase value creation and exports.
And we can do this.
We have identified more than 250 projects with the potential for 18,000 green jobs.
From Stad in the north to Sveio in the south, from Sollund in the west to Årdal in the east – we’ve spoken with businesses, municipalities, politicians and many many more. They have shown us what we can achieve:
How we can build world-leading industrial parks and harbours in Western Norway.
How we can be the leading marine region worldwide.
How we can achieve excellence within innovation and green infrastructure.
And how we can accelerate our progress towards the green shift by being supreme partners.
The green shift is already under way.
We hope everyone will come onboard.
We need even more smart ideas.
We need even more skilled hands, agile minds and people who aspire to work together.
We’ve done it before, and we will do it again.

Bio
A true Scot. Born in Glasgow. Studied French and Italian at Glasgow University. Spent one year teaching in a French school and one year studying in Italy. Moved to Norway in 1991 and live just south of Bergen. Married into a family of boat builders and we live on the coast so spend a lot of time on the water. Have taken a "captain's certificate" for boats over 15 m in length, including navigation, ship mechanics, shipping regulations and a one-week safety course which qualifies me to work offshore. Work experience includes 2 years working for a French investment bank in London (during which time I sat and passed the general registered representative exam), long-term involvement in my father's publishing firm where I have gained in-depth knowledge of printing and publishing. Initally worked as an English language instructor for Berlitz when I moved to Norway, then moved over to translations once my Norwegian was strong enough. Work as freelancer for a number of Norwegian and European agencies and have a number of direct customers, both locally and throughout Norway. Run a local theatre group - two performances every year.
