I have wide-ranging experience of translating material for the tourism industry, including websites, marketing material and magazine articles, for a range of clients including major museums and governmental organisations. My personal interest in history and art provides a useful background for my degree qualification in European Studies and my postgraduate research, which focused on the EU and European politics, economics and geography. My training in modern languages was strongly focused on business matters, including marketing and advertising and also covered cultural studies.
Working part-time as a project coordinator for a creative arts facility has given me a great deal of experience in the visual arts, which is in addition to my expertise in this area as a translator, which I currently do part-time.
Three years' experience of working in the healthcare industry before and during my attendance at university, as well as coming from a family of health professionals, has given me a good grounding in medical terminology. My personal interest in aromatherapy, combined with the two years I spent working in cosmetics and beauty products, have also been great assets when translating marketing material, clinical studies, MSDSs and other documents in this field.
I graduated from the University of Manchester in 2007 with an MA (merit) in Translation Studies (with specialisations in Literary Translation and Scientific and Technical Translation), having completed a BA Modern Languages (Spanish and French) with European Studies at the University of Plymouth Business School in 2006, where I was awarded a first class degree and the School Prize for Best Spanish Language Student. I have also been an Associate Member of the ITI since 2007.
