I'm Richard Ferguson, a 51 year-old with dual British / French nationality. Originally from Sunderland in the UK, I have lived permanently in France since January 2001. I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 1996 in French language and literature (II:i), working in housing/project management in London for three years and then banking in Paris for nearly four years.
I now run espace anglais, a small language services company providing freelance French-to-English translation and proofreading services, and revision of content written in English by non-native speakers. The company was founded in January 2010 in Morlaix and is now based in Vannes, southern Brittany.
I have several direct customers, mostly medium-sized companies in France. I also work with a few leading translation agencies in Paris, Brussels and London. Between 2012 and 2019, I worked as official translator for the Citroën Racing World Rally Team in its various guises in the FIA World Rally Championship. Sadly, the team withdrew from the WRC at the end of 2019. My work for the team included translation of the English subtitles for Citroën Racing's "19, allée des Marronniers", a feature-length film released in December 2012 reviewing the 2012 season and the incredible career of nine-time World Rally Champion, Sébastien Loeb. I continue to translate content for Citroën Racing, as well as Peugeot Sport and Total, in various motorsport series in conjunction with Eric Bellegarde of EB Communication. My other current direct customers include Accoast, AeroNet, Efectis, FSC France, Prosys, Circuit Paul Ricard, Achat Public and InfoPro Digital.
I began working as a full-time professional translator in 2004 after taking a year-long translation diploma at the University of London in Paris. I then spent almost five years working as a translator/proofreader, project manager and team leader at Praetorius France sas before leaving in the second half of 2009. In my time at Praetorius and as a freelancer, I have worked for a variety of leading international manufacturers and service providers in France, Belgium, the UK, the USA and Canada on a wide range of technical and journalistic-style content for internal and external publication (the likes of Accoast, Achat Public, AeroNet, Alcan, Altran, Areva, BNP, Capgemini, Citroën, Daher, EDF-GDF, Efectis France, Efectis UK, France Telecom, FSC France, Hilti, IRA, Manitou, Orange, Peugeot, Pierre Fabre Group, Publicis, RATP, Renault, Safran, Schneider, Société Générale, Suez Environnement, Total, Veolia and Vinci).
