WHY ALL STARTED

Since middle school, I've acquired a special interest in languages, when I had my first contact with English and German. It started with a student exchange program (where I would happily host German students during one week) and then, with a blink of an eye, I found myself becoming more and more interested in those languages, never forgetting about the importance of my own. The way I found to, in some way, connect the three was translation. And here I am.

WHEN ALL STARTED

It all started in 2015, the year I decided to apply for a Bachelor's degree in Modern Languages (EN and DE, with a minor in Portuguese!). My purpose was very clear: I knew translation involved much more than being good at languages, it involved having a solid knowledge of the culture of those languages (and a bit of historic background wouldn't hurt too!), and that would be absolutely necessary to get to the next step, the Master's degree in Translation.

WHERE ALL STARTED

Finally, it really really started in 2018, at the University of Coimbra, in my Master's degree in Translation (EN/DE-PT). It was an essential step to get to know the world of translation and to realize there was a lot more to learn than I (and good amount of people) was expecting. And it was great. I had the opportunity to learn a bit about the theories of translation, a bit about translation software and to really practice translating of a great variety of topics.

During my master's degree, I was also able to experience the business world of translation as a trainee for SDL Portugal, a renowned company concerning translation software and translation services. For 3 months, I worked as a translator within the Marketing and IT team, translating content ranging from marketing, retail and tourism, to software, electronics and apps. I also had the opportunity to work for the Automotive team for one week, where I tried to gather as much knowledge as I could. This experience elevated my knowledge and skills to a new level, getting me comfortable with working with SDL Trados Studio and dealing with short deadlines.

If you are not very keen on reading or perhaps you don't have time right now:

- Bachelor's degree in Translation (EN/DE/PT)

- Master's degree in Translation (EN/DE-PT)

- Internship in SDL Portugal (Marketing and IT team, worked a little bit for the Automotive team as well)
