Beto is a brown man, a trained mining engineer, but he’s unemployed and has to drive an Uber for a living. While Paula is more cosmopolitan and likes to go out and be around friends, Beto is modest, a great cook, reflective and focused. The two love each other, but Beto’s insecurity and jealousy are the bone of contention in their relationship.

Experience
Years of experience: 8. Registered at ProZ.com: Feb 2020.
I’m a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker born in São Paulo, Brazil, where I had my first language-related professional experience as a bilingual secretary in a multinational company. There, I put my skills with both languages to work and help over 5,000 employees with a variety of everyday issues, from organizing multilingual conferences to tracking product expiration and delivery dates—all the while doing pro bono and casual subtitles on the side.
As a result of those experiences, I soon decided to make a living out of working with languages and subtitles and turn what was once a hobby into a career, so I had to professionalize my knowledge and make things official. Thus, I dedicated five years to learning, studying and improving my English and Portuguese skills. I got a BA in English and Portuguese Languages, Linguistics and Literature as well as a Teaching Degree from a top-notch university. At that time, I worked as an in-house translator and QCer to polish up my abilities, dealing with texts and subtitles in Social Sciences, Education, and Entertainment.
Cue ten years in and many courses taken to learn different techniques and CAT tools, I’ve translated over dozens of documents as well as scripts and screenplays of both short and feature films and I also subtitled over 7,000 minutes of content, including e-learning courses, documentaries and institutional videos—and I'm ready to multiply those numbers to continue solving problems for other people in this remarkable hobby that I turned into a profession that requires skill, accuracy and knowledge.
ENGLISH AND FRENCH TO BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE TRANSLATION & SUBTITLING
I work with the EN<>PTBR pair with translations, subtitling and proofreading for agencies and direct clients. I team up with the biggest streaming platforms on the market, either directly or indirectly, as well as learning management systems and award-winning filmmakers.
I do traditional translations, versions and subtitles as well as revisions, MTPE and quality control tasks. As of February 2023, I have translated dozens of documents to PTBR, translated over 35 projects to English, and subtitled over 7,000 minutes (120 hours) of content.
BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE TO ENGLISH TRANSLATION & SUBTITLING
I translate scripts and screenplays into English as well as treatments, budget plans and artists’ statements for funding notices and art distribution. In addition, I translate and subtitle short and feature films, among which some projects have already been screened at film festivals such as the Göteborg Film Festival, the Berlinale and the Tiradentes Film Festival.
BA IN PORTUGUESE AND ENGLISH LANGUAGES, LINGUISTICS AND LITERATURE
Being immersed in an academic context gave me both practical tools and a theoretical framework concerning linguistic workings, literary trends and language use. In other words: it allowed me to learn more about different translation methods and approaches to make more well-informed choices regarding my work, helping me always prioritize the quality, tone and accuracy of my deliveries.
TEACHING DEGREES IN PORTUGUESE AND ENGLISH
I earned English and Portuguese degrees in Education, also from USP. Therefore, in addition to theoretical knowledge and a connection with the area of academic research—such as Educational Psychology, Methodology of the Teaching of English and Portuguese and Educational Studies—, I was able to have field experience with both languages and a hands-on approach about different types of curricula. This is to say that I provide up-to-date translations concerning the lingo.
GRADUATE IN IT
As I couldn't be left behind in an ever-evolving market, I also have a degree in Information Technology, with network maintenance, CSS/HTML programming and database management as the main areas.

As my academic and professional career shows, my areas of specialization are Education (e-learning, institutional training and online platforms), Audiovisual (art, literature and entertainment industry), and IT (networks and programming).
