Translation - English The idea to launch an electronic news site for Borj El-Shemali Camp started with a local group of young men and women who noticed the absence of any outlet to keep up with the daily happenings within the camp. The site was launched in collaboration with activist Ahmad Dahwich during workshops that focus on human rights and spreading a culture of journalism and active citizenry. These workshops sought to advance young people's capacities to set up socio-cultural initiatives and campaigns. We selected a group of young men and women with the intellectual inclination and aptitude to undertake this initiative, and we arranged the first meeting so that they could introduce their ideas. From this meeting, we came up with the vision of establishing a news site that bears the name of Borj El-Shemali Camp. This site would provide complete coverage of all the camp’s news and issues. This was the beginning of the work.
It is worth noting that, though we were not the first electronic news site established in the refugee camps in Lebanon, we are constantly striving for excellence, just as we are always boldly and courageously striving to raise awareness about the plight of Palestinian refugees. We should also mention the importance of electronic media in this age of information and the role of the internet in transmitting our message to the world.
The Borj El-Shemali Camp website is an independent Palestinian news source that was launched in 2013. It is headquartered in Borj El-Shemali Camp in Tyre, Lebanon. Borjcamp.com strives to provide a news service that stands out for being fast, precise, and unbiased. With this in mind, we provide all the latest news on social work in the camp, and we offer coverage of joyous and grievous events alike.
Borjcamp.com offers around-the-clock coverage of Palestinian events in Borj El-Shemali camp. First and foremost, we focus on news about Borj El-Shemali camp itself. As a second priority, we cover news in other camps around Tyre. We also offer some coverage of wider Palestinian events. Our coverage depends on the organization’s team of editors, artists, and reporters. The news incorporates a variety of topics including politics, society, culture, sports, economics, and community announcements. This is all covered by photographic journalism and written reports and investigations.

Bio
I am a native speaker of US English holding a BA in Arabic and an MA in Professional Translation. I am passionate about building bridges between language communities and creating translations that have the same social, legal, and linguistic implications as their original counterparts.
I have spent three years working in various humanitarian language service capacities, spending three consecutive summers working for a grassroots empowerment program in Tyre, Lebanon. Here I translated many short documents for local schools and organizations. These documents include permission slips, pamphlets, and interviews with Palestinians living in diaspora. I also connected with a local news organization and translated several web pages and articles for them.
While in the US, I have intermittently worked with refugee resettlement agencies as a caseworker, linguist, and service coordinator. I have translated cultural orientation materials from English into Arabic and taught cultural orientation classes in Arabic for LEP clients.
Most recently I have been working as a freelance translator and focusing on documents in the legal and financial fields. I became passionate about legal translation during my master's program because of its strict usage of terminology and its palpable, real-world implications.
When I am not translating, I am developing Arabic curriculum and teaching Arabic at the high school and university levels. My curriculum combines culturally responsive pedagogy and the multiliteracies framework. I encourage students to connect Arabic to their own physical and conceptual experiences in order to make the language skills they gain relevant to their own personal, professional, and academic growth.
I would be delighted to bring my passion for connecting language communities and my professional experience to your next project.
