French to English: Assurance: les risques couverts General field: Other Detailed field: Insurance
Translation - English Circumstances requiring insurance coverage are hazards, that is, the unpredictability of a harmful event, as the case may be, or one of its characteristics (example: date of death), situations beyond the control of the insured (example: divorce), the legal implication of the situations (example: impossibility to insure the consequences of a criminal conviction or payment/fines). This therefore means that known past events cannot be insured (i.e. prior disaster). As a matter of fact/Consequently, it is possible in principle to seek insurance for anything related to the ownership of a movable or immovable asset, life, health, etc.
The most common types of insurance contracts are life insurance and indemnity insurance contract or IARD (fire disaster and miscellaneous risks). There are personal insurance contracts (AP) and assets and responsiblity insurance. Personal insurance refers to life insurance which extends to/supplemented by personal casualty insurance (health, disability, death in any circumstance). Property and casualty insurance refer to fire accidents and miscellaneous risks excluding . Insurance companies sometimes provide coverage for lotteries and games so as to make unexpected and significant gains.
General field: Other Detailed field: Government / Politics
Translation - English Abuses of power by the forces of law and order in Sub-Saharan Africa: rape, torture, ransom, police brutality, may no longer be considered as "mistakes" when they are systematic. It is not just human rights campaigners who are concerned about the long list of misdeeds. The public has also had enough and are starting to build their own barricades and protecting themselves against these acts of violence.
The police in Africa are losing control. The ever increasing wave of armed crime on the continent shows the shortcomings of the security system just when it is desperately needed. According to a UN study, three Africans out of every four in the city have been a victim of violence in the last five years. This is nearly twice as many as in the cities of Asia and even South America where the crime rate ranks among the highest in the world. This survey only covers Uganda, South Africa and Tanzania. It does not include Nigeria and Congo (former Zaïre) which are reputed for their violence.
English to French: Tax havens General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Finance (general)
Source text - English Earnings from income generated from real estate (i.e. by renting property owned in an offshore jurisdiction) can also be eliminated in this way. If taxes (if any) are paid in the tax haven jurisdiction, companies can avoid taxes in their home jurisdiction because the tax had already been paid in the lower tax rate jurisdiction. Some taxes (such as inheritance tax on the real estate, VAT on the initial purchase price of the real estate, or transfer tax, annual immovable property taxes, and municipal real estate taxes) cannot be avoided or reduced, as these are levied by the country the real estate where the property is located, and hence need to be paid just the same as any other resident of that country. The only thing that can be done is picking a country that has the smallest rates on these taxes (or even no such taxes at all) before buying any real estate.

It dawned on me many years ago that I was destined for translation when I came to the realization that my penchant for knowledge in all fields coupled with a near obsession for accuracy were attributes which I possessed naturally and displayed effortlessly.
This took me into two prestigious translation schools. I am a holder of two Master's Degrees in Translation and I am currently a PhD fellow. I also hold a diploma in the teaching of the English Language.
My knowledge of translation stems from years of hard work and determination to be as close as possible to the source text in style and content. I do not consider translation as an evanescent and an occasionally inspired task, but rather as a reasoned, scientific endeavour whose procedures and decisions can be explained authoritatively by the competent and confident translator.
Work with me for your legal, financial, medical, environment, academic translation assignments. I am the professional you and your company need!
