Madetswil – 26.01.2016 Kürzlich fanden Deutsche Zöllner am Grenzübergang Bietingen (D) fünf Welpen im Kofferraum eines Autos. Der Zoll geht davon aus, dass es sich um illegalen Tierverkauf handelt (20min berichtete am 20.01.2016). Wie das Beispiel zeigt ist Hundehandel kein Ausnahmefall und gerade im Internet wimmelt es leider immer noch von dubiosen Hunde- und Katzenanbietern. TIERFAIR zeigt, auf was man beim Kauf eines Welpen achten sollte.
Im Internet gibt es ein grosses Angebot von Rassekatzen- und Hunden aller Art, Interessenten werden daher über die vielen Anzeigen schnell fündig. Oft ist von liebevoller Aufzucht die Rede, schöne Fotos komplettieren das Angebot. Allerdings ist Vorsicht geboten bei unschlagbaren Preisen, Musterfotos und auch bei Anzeigentexten in gebrochenem Deutsch. Dahinter stecken oft gut organisierte und kriminelle Organisationen. "Jeder Interessent tut gut daran sich vor einem Kauf fundiert zu informieren über Haltungsbedingungen und Zucht. Wir raten zur Vorsicht bei der Anschaffung eines Haustieres über ein Zeitungs- oder ein Internetinserat," erklärt Claude Häberling, Präsident von TIERFAIR.
Die Welpenproduktion geschieht in unwürdigen Zuständen in Verschlägen, Garagen, Kellern und Schuppen, auf Hygiene wird nicht geachtet und auf die Gesundheit der Tiere wird keine Rücksicht genommen. Zudem werden die Kleinen viel zu früh von ihren Müttern getrennt, in kleinen Käfigen oder engen Kofferräumen durch halb Europa transportiert, dies dann ohne Wasser oder Nahrung. Wenn die Welpen diese Tortur überhaupt überleben, werden nicht wenige bereits krank an die neuen Besitzer übergeben, die Impfpässe fehlen oder sind gefälscht. TIERFAIR gibt ein paar einfache Tipps auf was beim Welpenkauf geachtet werden sollte, damit zukünftige Tierbesitzer besser geschützt sind vor solchen Angeboten:
1. Das Alter des Welpen
Ein guter Züchter gibt die Tiere im Alter von 10-13 Wochen ab und verkauft nur Welpen aus eigenen Würfen.
2. Die Zucht
Nebst viel menschlicher Zuwendung, sollte auch der Kontakt zu Artgenossen gegeben sein. Ein verantwortungsvoller Anbieter züchtet nicht in einem dunklen Keller oder einem Verschlag. Zudem wird er sichergehen, dass die Kleinen einen guten neuen Platz bekommen. Durch Gespräche und Fragen wird er absichern, dass die zukünftigen Besitzer den Bedürfnissen des Tieres gerecht werden können und wird auch dazu auffordern, die Welpen vorab zu besuchen, dass sich Tier und Halter kennenlernen. Ein seriöser Züchter sollte nicht Welpen "wie am Fliessband" produzieren und auch nicht mehr als zwei Hunderassen im Angebot haben, sonst ist eine umfassende Betreuung nicht mehr möglich. Die neuen Besitzer sollten unbedingt darauf bestehen die Zuchtstätte vorab zu sehen und die Übergabe beim Anbieter zu organisieren. Auch Referenzen können helfen einen guten Zuchtanbieter zu finden.
3. Die Eltern
Ein seriöser Züchter wird den Interessenten die Mutterhündin und die Geschwister zeigen, kann über die Eigenschaften der Eltern erzählen und dementsprechend informieren bei Fragen zu der Rasse.
Abschliessend empfiehlt TIERFAIR generell auch in Tierheimen zu suchen. Viele Tiere, ob Hunde oder Katzen suchen einen guten Platz. Sollten Interessenten trotz der Tipps an einen unseriösen Verkäufer geraten müssen diese Informationen an den kantonalen Veterinärdienst weitergegeben werden.

Often the talk is of loving care, and beautiful photos complete the offer. However, caution is required when you see unbeatable prices, sample photos, and poorly written advertisements. Often well-organized, criminal organizations are behind the offers. "Every prospective customer should inform themselves before a purchase about housing conditions and breeding. We advise caution regarding the acquisition of a domestic animal from a newspaper or an Internet advertisement," explains Claude Häberling, president of TIERFAIR.
Puppy farming occurs in substandard conditions in shacks, garages, cellars and sheds, attention is not paid to hygiene, and no consideration is taken of the health of the animals. In addition the young are separated much too early from their mothers, are transported in small cages or cramped luggage trunks through half of Europe, and all this without food or water. If the puppies even survive this torture, it's common to hand off sick animals to their new owners, while the vaccination records may be missing or falsified. TIERFAIR has a few simple tips on considerations for buying a puppy, so future animal owners are better protected from these offers:
1. The age of the puppy
A good breeder gives away his animals at the age of 10-13 weeks and sells only puppies from his own litters.
2. Breeding
Along with abundant human contact, they should also have contact with fellow animals. A responsible supplier does not breed animals in a dark cellar or a shed. In addition, they will make sure that the young have good living conditions. By having a conversation with the prospective owners and asking questions, they will ensure that they will be able to meet the needs of the animal. They will also ask the prospective owners to visit their puppy first, so they can meet the animal and the keeper.
