French to English: Excerpt from a thriller novel
Source text - French La soirée s’annonçait encore une fois douce, il décida de rentrer à l’hôtel à pied, en longeant la Seine. On avait beau dire, cette ville avait un charme fou, quelles que soient l’heure ou la saison. Les spots des bateaux-mouches balayant régulièrement les berges tuaient un peu l’ambiance presque romantique, mais il en fit abstraction, profitant d’un peu de calme dans sa tête, pour la première fois depuis long”
Excerpt From: Erwan Ripoll. “Quelqu'un de bien.” iBooks.
Translation - English It was going to be another cool evening, so he decided to walk back to the hotel along the Seine. It was said that this city had oodles of charm, no matter the time of day or the season. The lights from the "bateaux-mouches" regularly plied the shoreline and diminished the romantic ambiance, but he wasn't paying attention, preferring to take advantage of the time to calm his mind for the first time in a long time.

Experience

I am a Canadian translator, teacher, editor and proofreader. Language is my passion and I like nothing better than to help somebody improve the quality of their writing. English is my first language and I specialize in translations from French into English.
I am also an avid reader, so, as a result, my favorite assignments have been novel translations. I love the richness of the French language and like the challenge of not only translating the passages correctly but also translating them well enough to still be considered well written. As a consumer of fiction from around the world, I know that there is nothing worse than reading a bad translation. My goal is to make sure that my final product is always as good (or even better!) than the original.
Please feel free to get in touch if you would like my help with any of your projects.
