I. PURPOSE AND SCOPE
With healthymagination, GE has positioned itself as a leader in health and that includes taking a strong stance against tobacco. The medical community has identified significant personal health hazards related to the use of tobacco products (cigarettes, pipes, cigars, smokeless tobacco [e.g. snuff, chew], etc.), including a well-established linkage between the use of such products and cancer and/or respiratory disease. This standard creates tobacco-free campuses (all GE-controlled areas, including outdoor areas), globally.
II. APPLICABILITY
To the extent that it does not conflict with applicable law or regulation, and is not subject to any information, consultation or bargaining obligations with existing employee representative groups, this standard applies globally to all employees and contractors at all GE-controlled facilities where GE work is being performed, including offices, manufacturing and service facilities, customer job site locations, project sites or other locations where work is being performed on behalf of GE. Where negotiation, information, and/or consultation with employee representatives is required, such will occur with the goal of instituting the same or similar standard to the degree possible after good faith discussions have taken place. It is required that all sites comply with local, state, and federal smoking/tobacco law when implementing this standard.
Note: To the extent that any portion of this standard conflicts with law, that portion of the standard shall not apply in the respective jurisdiction. However, any remaining elements of the standard not in conflict are still applicable.
III. TOBACCO-FREE AREAS
Tobacco use is prohibited in all GE-controlled areas, which includes all indoor facilities (e.g. private enclosed offices, meeting rooms, cafeterias, employee lounges) and all outdoor areas.
Tobacco use is also is prohibited at all times in company vehicles. (This includes vehicles provided to employees for private use.)
Use of electronic cigarettes, described in further detail in Section VIII, is also prohibited in all of these areas.
IV. SIGN REQUIREMENTS
Signs prohibiting tobacco use must be clearly posted around the property and at all prominent places, like the property line, building entrances, restrooms, stairwells, or other prominent places. No tobacco receptacles are permitted on GE-controlled property.
V. SALE OF TOBACCO PROHIBITED
Sale of any tobacco products by anyone anywhere on the campus (the area controlled by GE) is also prohibited.
VI. COMPLIANCE
Compliance with this standard is mandatory and covered employees who violate this standard are subject to disciplinary action in accordance with GE policy. Covered contractors who violate this standard on GE property are subject to be discontinued from GE work.
Any covered employee who is disciplined under this standard and believes his/her discipline was unfair, should speak with his/her HR representative, and may appeal his/her disciplinary action through existing appeal or dispute resolution procedures.
Note: When documenting violations, it’s the responsibility of the worksite to adhere to local laws. Within the U.S., HIPAA privacy rules do not apply to documenting violations of this standard because such information would be generated through GE’s capacity as an employer, not through its health plan.
VII. TOBACCO CESSATION OPPORTUNITES
GE encourages all employees to quit using all tobacco products. A number of government, company and/or business programs are available for employees who want help quitting. Leaders should visit the tobacco section of the HealthAhead support central for information on programs available to help employees quit.
VIII. PROHIBITION OF ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES
Electronic cigarettes, or “e-cigarettes” are battery-powered devices that provide vaporized doses of nicotine, or other narcotics, to the user. Like tobacco products, the nicotine contained within contributes to a number of adverse health effects such as coronary artery disease and hypertension. Unlike approved nicotine replacement therapies, such as gum or lozenges used to help the tobacco-user quit, these devices are not a proven cessation aid according to the World Health Organization. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has also warned that they are unsafe, and many countries have banned these devices. For these reasons, electronic cigarettes are also prohibited as part of this standard.
IX. HEALTHAHEAD SITE CERTIFICATION
This standard applies to all GE campuses and also impacts HealthAhead Site Certification status as follows: Since November 1 2011, compliance with this tobacco-free campus standard is required for certification in the HealthAhead Site Certification program, and any certified site that does not continue to comply with this standard will lose its certification status.

I. TUJUAN DAN SKOP

II. KEBOLEHGUNAAN
