Source text - French Les futs doivent être stockés debout sur des palettes en bois afin d’éviter la rouille au bas du fût dans les locaux humides, les palettes seront elles-mêmes sur des bâches en plastique étanche et un lit de sable / sciure de bois autour des palettes permet d’absorber les fuites au moment des manipulations. Les bâches seront nettoyées régulièrement et le sable / sciure devra être remplacé régulièrement.
Dans la mesure du possible, il est préférable d’acheter des futs neufs et scellés, directement à la raffinerie. Ceci pour éviter
- des fûts qui fuient à cause de fissures existantes
- des fûts dont la qualité du contenu est difficile à monitorer à travers le transport et le stockage
- des fûts dont les parois intérieures sont rouillées et qui larguent des particules
- des fûts qui ont contenu d’autres produits que du carburant et qui n’ont pas été nettoyés correctement.
Le diesel est certainement le combustible le plus sujet à de la non-qualité. Ayant une densité plus faible que l’eau, il est d’usage AVANT d’utiliser un fût de diesel de le laisser sans manipulation pendant 10 heures de façon à ce que l’eau reste dans le fond du fût. Il existe une pâte détectrice d’eau (pour le contrôle) et un filtre
« hydrosorb » (qui retiendra au moment du pompage impuretés et particules d’eau).
Translation - English The drums must be stored standing up on wooden pallets in order to prevent rust from forming at the bottom of the drums in storage units where there is moisture. The pallets themselves must sit on top of waterproof plastic sheets, and a layer of either sand or sawdust around the pallets ensures that any leaks that occur during handling will be absorbed. The sheets should be cleaned on a regular basis, and the sand or sawdust replaced on a regular basis as well.
If at all possible, it is preferable to purchase new, sealed drums directly from the refinery. This will avoid:
- Drums that leak due to pre-existing cracks;
- Drums with contents that cannot adequately be assessed for quality during transport and storage;
- Drums with rusted internal surfaces which are shedding particles;
- Drums that have contained other products besides fuels, and which have not been adequately cleaned.
Diesel is by far the fuel that presents the greatest number of quality issues. Since it is less dense than water, it is standard procedure, PRIOR to using a drum full of diesel, to let it sit without being moved for 10 hours to allow the water to sink to the bottom of the drum. There is also a water-finding paste available for detecting water (for quality control) and a « hydrosorb » filter (which will eliminate any impurities or water droplets during pumping).
