I have noticed that, on the one hand, many people don't know the difference between proofreading and editing/reviewing, and on the other hand, that there is a forum about proofreading but no forum about editing/reviewing. The fact that there is the one but not the other can further fool people into thinking that all these services are the same, whereas they really are very different, in terms of tasks, time and money.

I think that there is a lot to be said about editing/reviewing - it is highly technical work, at times even more so than translation itself. I personally have many questions to ask of my colleagues on the subject - and I probably also have lots of helpful advice to give.

How about it?

Translators and clients, both would learn the difference... clearly.

Seconded! Feb 5, 2008

I think it is a very good idea.

There is alot of confusion about proofreading, editing, reviewing.

Hello all,

Thanks, Viktoria, for your suggestion, and to everyone else who has posted their feedback. The editing/reviewing forum has been renamed Proofreading/Editing/Reviewing to cover this area as well: http://www.proz.com/forum/418 . Given that there is some confusion between these areas, and that some posts and topics in the Proofreading forum were in reference to editing/reviewing, both will be covered there to first help to make a distinction, and monitor if two separate forums are needed. Thanks again for your input.

Best regards,

Jared

Thank you, Jared, for your assitance.

I agree - we may not need a separate forum, especially since there are already so many threads in the proofing forum about editing/reviewing. It would be a waste to just leave them there and move any further discussion on editing/reviewing to a different forum, because then, people probably wouldn't read the existing threads because they would be in a different location. So, this is a good solution - it still allows threads about editing/reviewing that don't deal with proofreading.

I do believe that by having a separate forum for editing/reviewing, many people who haven't wondered before would ask themselves what the difference is if there are two separate forums for them. But let's just monitor this for now. It may be sufficient after all.

Thanks again!
