We have added a new polling feature in the right side bar of the ProZ.com home page. Today's poll asks what web browser you use. Please submit your vote! If you are a platinum member, you can suggest new polls to be included in a rotation by clicking "suggest a poll" underneath the poll box. Kirill Semenov Ukraine Local time: 14:30 Member (2004) English to Russian + ... Great feature! | Jun 21, 2005 |
Thank you, Jason, the feature is a great addition to proZ! But when I click at "Suggest a poll" line, my IE says "Error on page"... Addition: After I voted the poll disappears from my starting page. I would prefer a link still be avaibale to see it's current results. Also, I can see the previous polls available via the new button in `Community' drop-down menu, but I cannot vote in the poll which was conducted yesterday... Hi Jason, For some polls (including today's) it might be sensible to permit multiple responses. Cheers, Ralf

These quick polls are intended to provoke thought and mutual learning | Jun 21, 2005 |
I would like to add that our intention with these unscientific quick polls is to stimulate thought and discussion. This will provide yet another way for us to learn from each other. Numbers should not be considered scientific or accurate. However, if the number is 80% when you would have expected 20%, think about the reasons why this might be. Post a forum topic if you like. Or, suggest a follow-on survey.

Parrot wrote: Kirill Semenov wrote: But when I click at "Suggest a poll" line, my IE says "Error on page"... it simply doesn't respond. Yes, the page doesn't change at first glance, but if you look at the left down corner of the IE, it shows "Error on page" message

The suggest a poll link should work now. Andrew Wright
Andrew Wright wrote: The suggest a poll link should work now. Andrew Wright I have the same error message than Kirill's. Claudia P.S. and now that I voted it all disappeared. Agree with Kirill we should be able to keep seeing the poll after we voted.

Browniz points for poll participation? | Jun 21, 2005 |
Interesting concept! I have a few questions/suggestions: - Are there any plans to award Browniz for participating in such polls? Similar to how survey responses are worth 50 Browniz? As an incentive, maybe you would consider 5 Browniz or similar. This is on the order of a peer comment (3 points) or formatting a kudoz question for the glossary (10 pints). - How long are you planning to archive the information? Will members have access to all the polls ever taken? ... See more Interesting concept! I have a few questions/suggestions: - Are there any plans to award Browniz for participating in such polls? Will members have access to all the polls ever taken? - I wonder if a new poll every day is perhaps a bit much, in terms of thinking up meaningful polls as well as statistically speaking. The proz.com regulars visit every day, but to better reflect all users, I wonder if a week isn't a better time? (Whoops, I see you are just currently surveying that issue...) - Could one integrate a write-in answer, for those who mark "other"?

Thanks for suggestions | Jun 21, 2005 |
Thanks for all the suggestions so far. We will try showing the poll results on the home page for one day after you submit your vote. Results from past polls will continue to be available by selecting Community->Polls from the main menu. 5 browniz points will be awarded for each poll answer. We will also consider rotating polls less frequently than once per day. Thanks, Jason
I like the poll discussion too, good ideas Claudia
