Much better than last year... | | | Sheila Wilson Spain Local time: 21:16 Member (2007) English + ...
Maybe even too positive, if such a thing is possible. I keep saying yes when really I shouldn't. All well-paying jobs for clients who will pay, and on time, so it's difficult to say no.

An agency for which I worked regularly on translations for business magazines - one quarterly, one annual - has lost the contract for the quarterly one, so I shall be getting much less from them. Writer for whom I translate sci-fi novels finished one, I am waiting to hear from him about his next project. Occasional work from agencies but not so much as usual.

Firstly, there were major changes with a regular direct with whom I have been working for over 16 years. It is dangerous to put all your eggs in the same basket but that wasn't really the case as in the past, the client was good at this particular time and others could just be fitted around this one. Temporary asymetry is not usually cause for concern. See more Firstly, there were major changes with a regular direct with whom I have been working for over 16 years. It is dangerous to put all your eggs in the same basket but that wasn't really the case as in the past, the client was good at this particular time and others could just be fitted around this one. Temporary asymetry is not usually cause for concern. Unexpected organisational changes took place and although I still worked on the project for almost a year, the previously usual build-up did not happen. A lot of work was done in-house by non-native employees and/or freely by native or non-native people flattered to work on the project at all. Freebie-flattery was not good for business and in more ways than one. Having worked on the project for so long, some of the participants wondered what had happened to my work they were used to seeing. It was not my work, it was as simple as that. So I lost out directly and probably indirectly too. I'll not be counting on them again. That explains in part why what was expected to be a good kick-start to 2017 was only rather half-hearted. Secondly, I was simply less available through to other committments, notably study. The plan had been to work with the usual biggie and continue study and internships on that basis. It all became a little complicated but I had to give priority to the study. I had to give priority to the longer term. I've got some earnings to catch up on and will be doing that his summer! So negative, yes, but for reasons I can identify very clearly, sort of through certain choices, one of which back-fired slightly.

No problems as to the volume, but the structure is deteriorating (some rather low-cost local agencies among my largest clients, and volumes shifting towards my "non-preferred" language pairs.
Last year was steadier. In 2017 the highs are higher, and the lows are a bit longer. Politics in my country may have a role in that, since most of our politicians are now busy with each one's personal struggle to stay out of jail, instead of governing the nation. This means that business investments are further scrutinized before they are made. Economy is running in second gear.

Angus Stewart United Kingdom Local time: 21:16 French to English + ... Extremely positive | May 28, 2017 |
The first part of 2017 has been extremely positive and indeed has been the busiest start to the year that I have had since I started translating. This is in stark contrast to the first half of last year, which was much quieter than usual. | | | Just started! | May 28, 2017 |
Since I just started my professionnel career, I have nothing to compare with. Much work and takes time to get into it! | | | Michael Harris Germany Local time: 22:16 Member (2006) German to English
Well, I have been busy all the time up until now, so that can only be positive. | | | Negative so far... | May 28, 2017 |
Terrible. I havent received any orders this year. I am saving money to open a store as soon as I can. This occupation is too unpredictable .

I really can't complain. For many years, I've been having a pretty steady work volume, with many assignments everyday and during all day, but I noticed this year my average income has got higher in USD. I mean... I'm not talking about currency exchange fluctuations, which, by the way, also are helping me this year.
[Editada em 2017-05-29 02:40 GMT] | | | Positive except for May | May 29, 2017 |
Positive in general but May has been slow, apparently due to a large number of public holidays in France and elections in France and the UK. | | | Mario Chavez (X) Local time: 16:16 English to Spanish + ...
