Spanish Native translator - back in the market Sep 30, 2015

Hello!
I am interested on this topic because I have been disconnected from the translation field for a while and this seems to be the perfect way to get back into it again.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have any particular advice about marketing in Japan?

an assessment on my blog? Sep 30, 2015

Hi, Mr. Urwin, thanks so much for delivering this talk. It was very informative and inspirational.
I was wondering if you could kindly do a brief assessment on my personal Wordpress blog, the link of which is https://alvisspeaking.wordpress.com/, if it is not too much trouble? Thanks!
BTW I only started my freelance career in about a month, so any pointer is much appreciated!

Hi Lucinda, thanks for your question!

I am not an expert on the Japanese market at all. But I would say that it is important to understand your market and how it might be similar to or different from other markets. Possible questions to ask:

1. Where to potential clients go to look for translation services
2. What is the internet usage like - do potential clients fill in internet forms, for example
3. How much business is done by recommendation / word of mouth?

Of course, there are many more questions you might ask!

I hope that helps and thanks again,

Paul

Thanks very much Alvis.

OK, I took a look at your site and it looks nice I do have a couple of comments and potential improvements:

1. It looks a little bit like a blog, which is not bad, but I would suggest that buyers are more likely to buy from a services-type site, perhaps with the blog at the bottom.

2. I would prefer to see your telephone no. / address on the homepage

3. I personally would prefer a little more colour on the site, but that is just my personal preference.

Hope that helps and thanks again!

Paul

The value of cold calling Sep 30, 2015

Paul,

As a translator with a background in web marketing and content creation, I really enjoyed your presentation. Your friendly, 'plain English' delivery made the concepts easy to understand, and I especially appreciated hearing your views on cold calling. I've heard marketers speak out against it. Mind you, these are folks I respect, but... I've had some success with cold calling in my writing business, and now I'm rethinking my decision to leave it out of my translation marketing

Thank you for giving me food for thought!
