Powwow: Washington, D.C. - United States
|
|
Fun Networking Event | Nov 9, 2004 |
Meet for a fun ethnic dinner experience in Washington DC to exchange ideas, experiences, make new contacts, find new inspirations, and learn about different aspects of translation and interpretation work. Depending on the number of participants we can meet reserve tables a fun restaurant, have dinner at a private home or reserve a private room at a restaurant in DC (Cafe Mozart comes to mind with excellent German food and nice ambience). Feeback and alternative suggestions are welcome.
Event Planning | Nov 10, 2004 |
It looks like there is a lot of interest in this Powwow! When we got closer to the date and have a better idea of how many participants we will have, I will make suggestions for an appropriate location. It will be somewhere central and close to Metro access.

It depends on what time it is being held and where. Please advise once this becomes clearer. Thanks!
Washington DC Powwow - Jan. 22, 2005 | Jan 3, 2005 |
This promises to be an exciting event with excellent attendance! I will scout out a suitable meeting place in DC close to metro and public parking that gives us a chance to mix and mingle. I suggest a meeting time of 6:30pm followed by an affordable dinner. I know of several ethnic restaurants in the Adams Morgan/ Connecticut Avenue area that have private rooms and I will let you all by the end of this week where exactly we can meet. If anyone has a suggestion for a centrally located restaurant with private room and with good public transportation access + public parking, please send me an e-mail: [email protected]
Also, if you haven't done so yet, please udate your response to reflect whether or not you will be able to attend so that I have a close to accurate head count.
I am very much looking forward to meeting everyone! Your profiles are all so interesting to read and I can't wait to meet you in person!
Until soon,

Location for Powwow in Washington DC | Jan 5, 2005 |
Now that our group is fairly large it wasn't easy to find a nice spot that allows easy mixing and mingling and didn't require a minimum booking charge, but here it is:
Sesto Senso (Italian Restaurant) 1214 - 18th Street NW, Washington, DC 2 blocks south of the Dupont Circle Metro station. www.sesto.com.
We have a reservation for their mezzanine level (seats up to 45 people) at 6:30pm. ... See more Now that our group is fairly large it wasn't easy to find a nice spot that allows easy mixing and mingling and didn't require a minimum booking charge, but here it is:

The setting gives us the opportunity to meet everyone "reception style" and then settle down for dinner. The prizes are DC prizes, but the pasta dishes are affordable. The restaurant also has live music and a downstairs dance club so anyone who really wants to party can do that later on. There are also a good number of other venues in the area if parts of the group want to move on at one point.
I am looking forward to meeting all of you!! ▲ Collapse

What shall we do in light of the promised Saturday snowstorm in DC? They now say it will start in the morning, not late Saturday night. With 4 to 6 inches, the city sort of shuts down. If it were only 1 inch as we had on Wednesday, I would have no trouble driving to the Metro station and taking Metro as I had planned. But even Metro has been known NOT to deal with snow very well, depending on the type of snow and the temperature.
RE: Guests and Snowstorm | Jan 21, 2005 |
Guests, especially spouses are welcome of course.
I hope that the snowstorm will be "mild" and that Metro will operate as usual. The restaurant will keep our reservation regardless of weather conditions and everyone should use their best judgment to decide if they have a safe way to make it to the meeting and back home again. I will only be able to come if Metro operates reliably, as I am coming in from Vienna. Let's wait and see what happens during the day on Saturday... Still ... I will also have a problem if the snow is bad. Returning, it will take me 55 min. to Arlington via metro and bus. I can plan to stay only one hour. Masha.
Snowstorm in DC area | Jan 22, 2005 |
The most recent local weather forcast now calls for heavy snowfall tomorrow afternoon with accumulation of up to 10 inches in addition to heavy local gusts. These conditions make driving unsafe in and around DC, and I assume that anyone from out of town would want to and should stay home. Even the overland portions of the metro might experience severe delays until the snowfall calms down.
