Pavel KrivdaI have been using MemSource for almost a year, from the position of a linguist assigned jobs by an LSP. I also use another CAT tool so I feel competent to make some comparisons.
From my perspective of a linguist - translator, what I appreciate most about MemSource is the availability and simplicity of use. First of all, MemSource Editor is free of charge, so the fact that the LSP I work for has decided to implement MemSource and has asked me to translate in this environment does not cost me a single penny.
Secondly, the Editor is a very simple and intuitive tool which is easy to install and use but still has many powerful features. To give some examples, there is a track changes function, a thorough QA check, full spellchecking and grammar checking and all the main features you would normally expect to be available in a CAT tool.
Among the drawbacks, I miss a live preview feature most of all and sometimes I would like to connect my own TMs and glossaries to the projects I am working on, which is currently not possible.

How easy is it to learn?
If I established an agency, I would choose this tool
Review by
Gyula Erdesz . 1, From project managers' point of view:
Probably the lightest, most cost effective tool for sharing translation projects and databases among translators. For a monthly fee you can translate as many word as you want, without any restriction, which is quite generous comparing to its competitors (e.g. XTM Cloud) that usually limit the monthly word amount.
If I ever established an agency, I would start with Memsource, for sure.
2, From freelance translators' point of view:
The core concept of Memsource is on-line sharing of translation databases, so if you work mostly in one place and alone, you cannot really benefit from its biggest advantage.
I used this software for several smaller projects just for curiosity and I have to admit that Memsource Editor has most of the tools and options I need. Processing of sdlxliff and ttx files is seamless, which is a must nowadays.
I would need only a couple of extra tools the absolute satisfaction, e.g. autotext, track changes, on-the fly spelling, separate review function for translators.
Another really important advantage is Memsource support which is proactive, friendly ans lightning fast.
This tool definitely has a bright future.

How easy is it to learn?
Robust, easy to implement, easy to use
Review by
Orange Translations . We have been using Memsource since July 2012 and are now running a large number of our projects with it. From an agency perspective, Memsource is extremely easy to implement. It is cloud-based, so there is no need for in-house IT infrastructure. The pricing is subscription-based, which means that there is no up-front investment. For a small translation agency like us these are huge advantages.
The project management is browser-based, whereas the actual translation is done on Memsource Editor, an easy-to-use software which the translators install on their computer.
In our experience, Memsource has been extremely robust. There have been zero critical incidents since we started using it. Smaller issues come up every once in a while (after all, Memsource is a relatively new tool) but their tech support is always quick in resolving them. In fact, it is very rewarding to see how our feedback is immediately processed and results in improvements of the software, sometimes in a matter of just hours or days. You really feel that they take their user feedback seriously.
A lot of our translators did not know Memsource at first. However, after giving it a try most of them tell us they like it – for its simplicity and useful features. It has reached a high acceptance among our translators.

How easy is it to learn?
great tool for team work
Review by
AmarantheAs a translation agency we have been using Memsource for about seven months and find it very helpful for the purposes of consistency and translating sizable documents that we split between several people.
It's one of the best tools we have ever used. As with any software there can be some technical glitches, but the customer support team is superb. They usually respond within 10-20 minutes and always come up with a helpful solution to whatever problem we encounter.

Great flexibility and so much better than Trados
Review by
SMAlmeida . I've been a Trados user for many years and when last year an agency asked me to use Memsource I was not crazy about the idea. They told me it was a zero learning curve from Trados and so I tried it.
In a sentence: although I have a license for both Trados (SDL 2014) and Memsource I only now use Trados if I have to.
Memsource is sooo much better. Great filters for source and target, you only have to translate the same thing once, automatically populates repetitions (true for translation and proofreading) and includes free access to a nice MT (unlike Trados).
All those years using Trados and here is a much better tool.
The only downside is that since it is cloud based, it is less flexible than Trados for off line work. But when you are online, just forget about Trados...
