Freelance translator, sworn translator, proofreader, and journalist.
Certified/sworn translator (Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Sworn translations and interpretations are one of my main areas of expertise. I am one of the few native British English speakers in Spain with this qualification. I offer some interpreting services in this field (sworn or certified interpreting). I do not offer court interpreting services.
Freelance translator: ES > EN, EN > ES.
Freelance proofreader: EN > ES, ES > EN. I proofread for a major translation company on an ongoing basis, and for smaller clients.
I work mostly in English into Spanish and Spanish into English. On average I translate at least 10,000 words per week (if not more) and I have over 20 customers between agencies, other freelancers and direct customers.
In 2006 I translated over 500,000 words.
My preferred area of work is currently legal, financial and banking translation.
Legal translator: My main area of expertise is contract translation.
Some examples of documents are: company/business documents, powers of attorney, contracts, insurance, due diligence documents. Also financial documents such as financing/funding contracts, annual financial statements, annual accounts.
Finance/banking: Documents include: press releases, presentations, banking software, internal documents, documents on payment systems, etc.
Sworn translator: both for companies and individuals. From English into Spanish and Spanish into English. I have worked very hard in this field in the past five years and take pride in the way I present documents, both because of the quality of the translation and the format, which is usually as close to the original as possible.
For companies I have translated: POAs, certificates, contracts, agreements, board agreements, annual financial statements, accounts, auditor's reports, articles of incorporation, company bylaws, commercial registry documents, and various types of contracts.
For individuals: divorce papers, divorce rulings, international adoption papers, degrees, diplomas, academic records, school records, powers of attorney, marriage certificates, criminal records, birth certificates, death certificates, live birth certificates, civil registry documents, driving licences.
German - English translator: I am no longer offering this combination.
Education:
1994 - 1997 Diploma in Tourism. Universidad Rey Juan Carlos I (Madrid)
1999 - 2002 BA Linguistics. Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM).
2001 - 2004 BA Translation and Interpretation. Centro de Estudios Superiores "Felipe II" (UCM). Madrid.
2005 MA in Digital Journalism. Instituto Universitario de Posgrado. Title issued jointly by Universidad Carlos III and Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona.
Courses/diplomas:
Diploma in Translation (IoL) Spanish > English (General, Legal and Technical papers, all passed first time round in 2010).
Spanish (Ciclo Superior, Escuela Oficial de Idiomas).
Qualified teacher of English (2001, Cambridge CELTA) and Spanish (2002, UCM) as foreign languages.
Born in Brighton, UK, I have grown up in a bilingual setting. I have lived extensively in Spain and Germany. Bilingual from an early age and a gifted creative writer, I always knew my future career would be language-related. After qualifying as a translator, I have found a job which allows me to work in what I most passionately love. I work as a freelance editor and journalist, as well as translating to and from my native languages: English and Spanish.
