Bio

My background may sound a bit surprising. I am a registered nurse, and I worked in an emergency room and intensive care unit for nearly a decade. I guess that at least should guarantee, that there is no pressure that can overcome me. Need me to work fast? No problem.

Alongside nursing I had freelanced in a few magazines, and after a while I started to get better and better offers to switch over to a paid staff journalist. In the end I took the offer, and the next decade I spent working for two different publications (both in the IT sector). I'd like to believe that has given me a very strong command of the Finnish language. Also, since IT is very US-centric, it became a second nature to translate English press releases and use them as a basis for my own article.

A decade later I decided to take a risk and go freelancer, so I could broaden the areas I'd cover. Unfortunately I did it exactly at the wrong time, since many publishing houses started laying off journalists. Suddenly there was an excess of freelancers.

It came increasingly hard to find writing jobs, so I decided to give translating a chance. Many years ago a friend of mine owned a role playing game store, and I was helping him translate game manuals and whatever he needed. Also, as I said, I had been translating English press releases for a decade already, and I believed I had the necessary skill set to do fine.

I now have been working successfully as a translator almost five years. I can work just as well subtitling TV series or movies or translating printed material.

From my background I can confidently say that medicine / nursing and computer technology should pose little challenge for me. But basically I don't mind what the subject material is. Also, as I said, it's next to impossible to get me over stressed. Also, I can work day or night local time, so if you need something done fast, get in touch!
