Translation - English The Roles of Orthopaedics and Chiropractic for a Patient with Lumbar Spondylolytic Spondylolisthesis
Introduction: In cases of lumbar spondylolytic spondylolisthesis, a vertebra protrudes forward for a certain reason, then compresses the nerves and causes pain and numbness. For such patients, it is a serious problem with various symptoms such as pain and numbness in the legs, as well as walking difficulties, and not just pain in the low back.
So, if orthopaedic clinic X-ray, MRI or such imaging shows the symptom is slight, orthopaedic clinics often prescribe a corset, rehabilitation (thermotherapy, electrotherapy, lumbar traction, etc.), and drugs (muscle relaxants, NSAIDs, etc.). In severe cases, they carry out surgery, or give nerve block injections, etc. But does this actually improve the lumbar spondylolytic spondylolisthesis?
Pain arose in this case when the symptoms were slight, and I doubted whether the forward-protruding lumbar vertebra, the cause of the pain, would move back, when the pain was relieved with corset and drugs.
It appears that the lumbar vertebra slipped forward because of imbalanced posture and articular dysfunction. I propose that it is possible to help improvement of spondylolytic spondylolisthesis by restoring normal movement to mobile joints, reducing the section of the lumbar spine that bears stress, and increasing natural healing power.
