Translation - English We are invited to not concern ourselves with the big decisions taken on our behalf by the Cabinet in their wisdom and to ignore it when reality demonstrates that we have not got very far. Using the information provided from time to time by the CSI and other polling companies, the Government affirms its belief that everything is ticking along nicely and, consequently, not only is there nothing to put right, on the contrary, they insist that things should continue to be done exactly as they have been up until now. They gain support through Parliamentary pacts in which the quid pro quo is never made explicit using railroading techniques disguised as governability and stability.
What awaits us is the eternal playing out of the scene so reminiscent of Snow White’s stepmother asking the mirror, ‘Who is the fairest of them all?’ Naturally, the stepmother is the Government and the mirror, the CSI surveys, the official and extra-official channels of communication, the long list of friends and those favoured by privatisations and the other treasures in the chest of economic neoliberalism with which we are blessed.
When all is said and done, they want to show us that Isidoro-Churchill were right. Surprise, surprise! We citizens can sit back and relax because the Government is watching over us all. The question is whether there is too much interest in our not worrying, in us getting bored before our time. Specifically, before we gain knowledge which would confirm to us that we have a full democracy. Or are on the road to one and not, as they might wish, in the limbo not exactly of the righteous but rather of the oblivious.
