I have over thirty years' experience of translating for clients in the arts world, including exhibition catalogues for major museums and galleries, prestigious auction catalogues, websites, exhibition reviews and other material.
ACADEMIC TRANSLATION
I provide specialist translations for fellow academics in the arts and humanities; I have translated many articles for publication, lectures and research material, both from German and French into English.
Texts translated have included material from many periods of art history, architectural history, art criticism, art theory, literature, journalism, psychology, philosophy and history. Many of the academic articles I have translated have been published (for instance, by Ashgate, Peeters, Rodopi, Routledge, on the internet and in various peer-reviewed journals). As an art historian, I specialise in the history of sculpture, architecture and dance of the early 20th century in Germany, France and England. A further focus of my research concerns the esoteric/spiritual/religious iconography and practices of artists. I am the author of a book (for Kunsthal Rotterdam) and catalogue entries (for the Centre Pompidou, Musée d'art Moderne de Paris) on André Derain's sculpture. I have also written a number of articles on the subject of architectural sculpture, sculptural patronage and artistic identity. My doctoral work at the Courtauld Institute of Art concerns the patronage of architectural sculpture in Germany, 1895-1933, my MA (Birmingham Institute of Art and Design) having focused on the radical conservatism of certain early 20th-century German patrons of avant-garde art. I am a member of the Association of Art Historians, the Public Monuments and Sculpture Association, and the Society of Authors.
