I hold an M.A. and a Ph.D.(a.b.d.) in The History of Art from Indiana University (1969-70), have taught Art History at the college level, and have been, for the last 32 years, an independant scholar in the field of Medieval Art and History, specializing in the history of the city, Cathedral and region around Chartres, France.
I have lived in France (mostly Chartres) for a total of perhaps four years (over the last 35), have a very good reading knowledge of academic French and can carry on a reasonable conversation in that language.
A strong minor in the fields of Ancient History and Art History makes me feel confident in these areas of expertise, as well.
I have also done woodworking (cabinetmaking) with hand tools for a number of years and know quite a bit about wood, trees (though from a practical, not a scientific point of view), and historical woodworking techniques.
For the past 23 years I have been an Antiquarian and Used Bookseller, first with a Storefront, now on the Web, and this experience has given me a certain expertise in the History of the Book, as well as in the practical aspects of bookselling, both on- and off-line.
For the last two decades I have been working on a monographic book dealing with the genealogies of a number of "noble" families in the Chartrain region in the 11th-13th centuries.
