Russian to English: Имя Петра Могилы - The Name of Peter Mohyla, a translation from a work of Makarios Bulgakov General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Religion
Translation - English The name of Peter Mohyla is one of the greatest adornments of our church history. He undoubtedly surpassed all the hierarchs of his times, not only in Malorossia (i.e. Ukraine), but in the greater Russian Church, and even in the entire Eastern Orthodox Church—he surpassed them with his enlightened mind and education, and even more so in his love of enlightenment and education, and his podvigs (i.e. feats) for the good of the enlightenment and education of the entire Church […] The entire Russian Church was rendered a great service by his founding of his collegium, which served as the model for all theological schools in Russia, and the entire eastern church was rendered a great service by his composition of the Orthodox Confession, which was approved by the other Primates and Ancient Patriarchs becoming one of the symbolic books of the Church.

Bio
My grandfather once said "When you speak another language, it's like you gain another soul." I find that to be true.
I was raised in the diaspora in the United States, in a multilingual environment. I've lived across Europe, from Moscow to Budapest, the Carpathians to the Caucuses, and Kyiv to Athens.
As a Native English speaker with over six years of translation and writing experience, I work mainly from Russian to English and Ukrainian to English. I'm a generalist translator, but I have special expertise in the humanities — particularly Eastern European history and Byzantine religion. I am also a Cambridge CELTA-certified English language teacher.
I’ve translated hundreds of academic and ecclesiastical documents. Projects I've worked on include:
Resolutions of the Councils of Bishops (the highest governing body in the Orthodox Church)
Excerpts from doctoral dissertations and academic journals in a variety of fields
Website databases
Excerpts from medieval Slavonic chronicles
19th Century literature
Birth records
University syllabi
I have also published both original works and translations in these fields, in both English and Russian.
I've studied academically in courses taught in Russian and Ukrainian, and also have experience working with obscure Slavic languages like Rusyn, (I interpreted for English speakers in the Carpathian Mountains), as well as Greek and Romanian (including ancient liturgical texts). I've worked on a myriad of projects ranging from translating website databases and university transcripts, to translating academic papers on Chinese architecture.
I’ve dedicated my life to the study of the diverse cultures and languages of Eastern and Southern Europe, and it's my passion to translate as much helpful material as possible from these languages into English.
As I grew up around these cultures, and live in these countries, these years of immersion have given me a near-native understanding which I bring to the table when translating.
