Chinchilla Melon Festival, Chinchilla, Queensland
The Melon Festival in the "melon capital of Australia" (...sure, that’s something to be proud of), is kind of big deal, guys. There's watermelon shoes, hats, obstacle course flooring, shot puts and pretty much anything else you can think of.

Deniliquin Ute Muster, Deniliquin, New South Wales
The Deniliquin Ute Muster is dedicated to the ute, an essential part of farm life in the outback. There are a lot of men in blue singlets and shorts, there’s rodeo events, live music acts (past performers include Keith Urban and Jimmy Barnes), and Aussie ute stunts such as "circlework" and "handbrakeys". Yes, they’re real things.

Mary Poppins Festival, Maryborough, Queensland
Move over Emily Blunt, the good people of Maryborough have been pretending to be Mary Poppins for years as part of the Mary Poppins Festival. Mary Poppins’ creator, author PL Travers was born here so peeps have obvs taken that to the extreme. But hey, if you want to race prams dressed as nannies, go for gold we say.

Beer Can Regatta, Darwin, Northern Territory
You know what we don’t think each time we finish a beer? “We should totally build a boat from this can” but that’s why the creative people of Darwin are here. These fine people have created the Darwin Lions Beer Can Regatta where beer cans are turned into boats and raced. It’s almost brilliant when you think about it.

Henley on Todd Regatta, Alice Springs, Northern Territory
The desert is not really the place you think of when you think “boat race” but Alice Springs says otherwise. 20,000 spectators come every year to watch competitors run their elaborately built "boats" down the dry riverbed during the Henley on Todd Regatta. Fancy dress is encouraged. We’ll leave you to imagine this one.

The Good Dog! Film Festival, Sydney, New South Wales
This is pretty much a film festival for all the people who love dogs. So, everyone. The two-day film festival devoted entirely to movies featuring man’s best friend, The Good Dog! Film Festival raises money for dog charities so OPEN your wallets people.

Elvis Festival, Parkes, New South Wales
It's about as far away from Graceland as you can imagine, but this far western New South Wales town has been celebrating The King for 25 years. The five-day Elvis Festival transforms the townspeople of Parkes into a bedazzled, sideburned bunch of peeps ready to swivel their hips at the slightest provocation. Sure, it’s mildly creepy but hey. YOLO.

The Camel Cup, Alice Springs, Northern Territory
Like horse racing, but weirder. In Alice Springs camels compete every July for the coveted Camel Cup, drawing about 5000 spectators, who stay for other attractions such as markets, rickshaw racing and perhaps a drink or two to toast the champion.

Running of the Sheep, Boorowa, New South Wales
Spain has the Running of the Bulls so naturally, Australia has the Running of the Sheep, the finishing touch to the annual, free Irish Woolfest, held every October in Boorowa. The sheep are herded through the streets by a local, Farmer Ashley, and his friendly pack of kelpie dogs.

The Compass Cup Cow Race, Mount Compass, South Australia
In writing this piece it’s become clear that Australians really do like a race, and that they’ll race literally anything. This particular race (Compass Cup Cow Race) embraces the chaos and hilarity of untrained cows "racing" – loosely speaking – to raise money for the local community.

Tunarama, Port Lincoln, South Australia
January 26 is Australia Day, a national holiday that means we all get a long weekend and dress up in flags. Many towns organise festivities to reflect their local character and the fishiest of these would have to take place in Port Lincoln. The Tunarama festival highlight is the Tuna Toss, a competition in which the town's most famous export, tuna, is lobbed in an Olympic-style hammer throw. Yep.

Il Deniliquin Ute Muster è dedicato allo "ute", ovvero, il pick-up ribassato che fa muovere gli agricoltori dell'outback. Troverai un sacco di uomini in pantaloncini e canotte blu, oltre a spettacoli di rodeo e concerti che hanno visto esibirsi artisti del calibro di Keith Urban e Jimmy Barnes, oltre alle performance di stuntman piloti alle prese con "ciambelloni" e "derapate col freno a mano". Già, è tanta roba.

Emily Blunt, fatti da parte. Sono anni che la brava gente di Maryborough si traveste da Mary Poppins per il Mary Poppins Festival. PL Travers, autore e creatore del personaggio, è nato qui e allora è logico che i locali siano belli fomentati sul tema. Però, occhio, perché come dicono da quelle parti, se vuoi fare la corsa con la carrozzina vestita da tata, attacca se vuoi vincere.

Ogni volta che ci si scola una birra, c'è una grande domanda che resta ignorata. "Perché non costruiamo una barca da questa lattina?" e, fortunatamente, la risposta è nelle sapienti mani degli abitanti di Darwin. Questa brava gente ha ideato la Darwin Lions Beer Can Regatta dove lattine di birra diventano natanti in competizione. Se ci pensi, è proprio una figata.

Abbiamo fiutato un grande evento per tutte le persone che adorano i cani. Cioè, tutte. Un festival cinematografico di due giorni dove i migliori amici dell'uomo sono i protagonisti assoluti. The Good Dog! Film Festival raccoglie fondi a scopo benefico per le onlus che si occupano di cani, quindi, sguinzaglia la tua mano e APRI il portafogli.

Cosa e Dove: Elvis Festival, Parkes, Nuovo Galles del Sud
Parkes è lontana da Graceland più di quanto tu possa immaginare, eppure da 25 anni questa cittadina del Nuovo Galles del Sud è molto vicina al Re del Rock and Roll, tanto da organizzare un festival di cinque giorni in suo onore. L'Elvis Festival trasforma gli abitanti di Parkes in una masnada di figuranti con basettoni pronti ad ancheggiare alla prima nota. Certo, fa un po' impressione, però, si vive una volta sola!

Come una corsa di cavalli, ma con un pizzico di stranezza. Ogni luglio, i migliori cammelli da corsa si riuniscono ad Alice Springs per sfidarsi nella prestigiosa Camel Cup. L'evento richiama fino a 5 mila spettatori, attratti anche dai mercatini, le corse dei risciò e perché no, anche da uno o più brindisi in onore del campione.

Il gregge è condotto attraverso il paese da Ashley, il pastore locale, in compagnia dei suoi fidati cani pastore australiani, i Kelpie.

Ormai, all'ennesima descrizione di una gara, forse ci sarai arrivato anche tu. Gli australiani adorano gareggiare con qualsiasi cosa e contro chiunque. Questa gara poi non fa eccezione. La (Compass Cup Cow Race) esalta il caos esilarante di improbabili atlete come le mucche che "gareggiano", si fa per dire, con il nobile scopo di raccogliere fondi per la comunità locale.

Il 26 gennaio si festeggia l'Australia Day, la festa nazionale ufficiale dove tutti si godono un weekend lungo vestiti da bandiera australiana. Praticamente ogni città organizza dei festeggiamenti ispirati alla propria cultura locale e, fra tutte, Port Lincoln riuscirà a non farti sentire un pesce fuor d'acqua. Già, perché il Tunarama è il festival dedicato al suo prodotto di punta, il tonno. Il momento clou? Sicuramente il Lancio del Tonno, roba da far impallidire i lanciatori di martello delle Olimpiadi. Già.

Perù nelle ultime settimane.
Le piogge torrenziali hanno
causato l’esondazione di fiumi

ha causato quasi un milione di sfollati
e più di 150mila persone hanno perso le loro
abitazioni, ricoperte dal fango o distrutte dai
fiumi in piena. Per aiutare a ricostruire le vite
di migliaia di peruviani che hanno perso tutto
la nostra azienda ha lanciato una campagna
globale di raccolta fondi in 17 Paesi. Tutte le
società del Gruppo hanno attivato un conto
corrente per le donazioni: Enel raddoppierà i
fondi che verranno raccolti con le donazioni.
Tutte le informazioni su questa iniziativa sono
sulla intranet aziendale.
Oggi la situazione alluvionale è rientrata
nella normalità anche se c’è il rischio di un’epidemia
di dengue, una malattia virale che si
trasmette con la puntura delle zanzare che
proliferano nell’acqua stagnante. A destare
preoccupazione è soprattutto la regione di
Piura, dove si sono registrati quasi 3.500 casi
di dengue. Inoltre è fondamentale tenere sotto
controllo possibili focolai di febbre gialla,
tetano, epatite A e influenza. Enel Perù ha
lanciato un programma di vaccinazione per
tutti i lavoratori che vivono o che viaggiano

Floodings in Peru
The death toll from the torrential rains that hit Peru in the last two weeks has reached 100. The downpours caused widespread flooding of rivers, calling for the prompt evacuation of over 800 cities and villages. The calamity has displaced over one million Peruvians while more than 150 thousand of them have lost their homes, covered by thick mud layers or destroyed by the fury of the elements.
Our company set out on a mission to rebuild the lives of those who lost everything, through a global fund raising campaign to be held in 17 countries. All Enel companies activated their own bank account to collect donations. All information pertaining the fundraiser can be accessed through the company’s intranet.
Today, the flooding crisis has been kept in check, even though the risk of a Dengue epidemic ominously looms on the horizon. It’s a viral illness that takes a simple mosquito bite to spread and mosquitoes notoriously thrive in stagnant water. The Piura region is the current Dengue hotspot with over 3,500 confirmed cases. But if Dengue wasn’t worrying enough, possible outbreaks of Yellow fever, Tetanus, Hepatitis A and Influenza must be prevented and possibly contained. As a precautionary measure, Enel Peru has embarked on a vaccination campaign for all workers living or traveling in the affected areas.
The massive storm has been partly triggered by an abnormal rise in temperatures along the coastal areas. The culprit is El Niño, the pattern of atmospheric events that take place in the Pacific Ocean roughly every five years.

The travel experts at Hertz have designed the car with families in mind, especially for those “are we nearly there yet?” moments. Aware of the challenges often involved in keeping the kids happy during long journeys, Hertz has created a car that is entertainment in itself.
From the seats to the ceiling, this family car has been adapted to become a moving canvas. Using popular colouring-in book designs, kids can now colour-in houses, animals, flowers, and, of course, cars, as they travel.
Developed by the innovation team at Hertz, this one-of-a-kind prototype has been created using specialised upholstery. Following a trial run at its London Heathrow branch, Hertz will continue to gauge customers’ reactions to consider the launch of the Colouring-in Car in the future.
