I am an affiliate member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists and will complete the Diploma in Translation exams in January 2018. I am a qualified solicitor with many years legal experience, now offering French to English translation and proof reading.
Clearly, the main specialism I will offer is legal translation and only in the language pairing French to English. I hope to gain experience by undertaking proof reading and shorter translations initially.
I am a native English (British) speaker. I have an LLB degree with honours in Scots Law with French Law and I converted this to English law in 2003. I have also spent two years living, studying and working in France as well as studying French language as part of my degree. I completed a diploma in French law at the University of Auvergne, where all of my exams were in French.
After my law degree, I completed a Masters in European Studies and International Relations in Nice. This course was in French, English and German.
After that I qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales and have spent many years in legal practice. This has given me practical expertise and understanding of the law, an appreciation of the differences between legal systems and a respect for the importance of ensuring the terminology is accurate in a legal context.
Law is all about language and that is probably what attracted me to the legal profession in the first place! At heart I am a linguist and am following in the footsteps of my mother who was a French and German teacher.
