Bio

Lale Alatli was born in Istanbul in
1976. She has been living and working in Thessaloniki since 2006. She
graduated from the Department of Tourism Management at Istanbul
University, the Institute for Art and Restoration in Florence and the
Department of Languages, Literature and Culture of the Black Sea
Countries (Turkish Philology) at Democritus University of Thrace.

Apart from her native language Turkish,
she has an advanced knowledge of Greek, Italian, English and a high
degree of French proficiency. In addition to many years of teaching
Turkish Language to foreigners, her wealth of professional experience in
translating literary books, websites and various texts (formal and
informal), as well as interpreting and subtitling.

In addition to having provided language
interpretation services for Alexis Tsipras, the Greek Prime Minister and
Leader of the Syriza Party, she is currently involved in interpretation
and translation projects in collaboration with various significant
bodies, including the European Union and The Office of the United
Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Lale Alatli has translated many books
from Greek to Turkish. She has been working with the Ministry of
Education and Culture in Cyprus, prominent Cypriot authors and both
Turkish and international publishing companies. She is also a member of
the Panhellenic Association of Translators.

Coupled with her book translations, Lale
Alatli has been working as a Turkish instructor for over 10 years.
Since 2009, she has been a formal examination officer in oral
examinations for the Greek State of Language Proficiency of the Greek
Ministry of Education.

Additionally, she has been involved in
voluntary work for non-profit organizations whose actions span advocacy
for human rights, animal rights and struggle against injustice and
inequality (e.g. racism and all types of actions against violence), as
well as environmental abuse, such as GREENPEACE, WWF, HAYTAP,
DEFNE-GREEK TURKISH FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION etc.
