Source text - Turkish UNESCO Karagöz gölge oyununun “Türk Kültürel Mirası”na dahil olduğunu açıklayınca, Yunanistan’da kıyamet kopmuş.
“Karagöz bizimdir!” feryatları yükselmiş.
Aslına bakarsanız adı bile Karagöz olan bir oyunun milliyetini tartışmak abes değil mi!
Eğer Yunan olsaydı oyunun adı “Mavromatya” olurdu.
Ama konunun üzerinde biraz düşününce farklı boyutlar da ortaya çıkmıyor değil.
Bir arkadaşım bu gölge oyununun “Menkıbeyi Hacivat” adı altında Endonezya’da da ünlü olduğunu söylemişti.
Bu yüzden köken bulmak zor.
Ama bundan da önemlisi, Karagöz’ün bugünkü durumu.
Biz hemen hemen unuttuk bu oyunu. Sahip çıkmıyoruz, “hayali” adı verilen ustalar teker teker yok oluyor.
Buna karşılık Yunanistan’da bu oyun hâlâ popüler ve canlı.
Translation - English When UNESCO announced the Karagöz shadow play falls under “Turkish Cultural Heritage”, all hell broke loose in Greece.
“Karagöz is ours!” they shouted.

A friend of mine once mentioned that this shadow play was a famous play in Indonesia as well with the name called “Epic of Hacivat ”.
For this reason, it’s difficult to find the origin.
But Karagöz’s current status is more important than this.
We almost forgot about this play and we don’t claim it ours. The masters called “imaginary” are disappearing one by one.
On the contrary, this play is still popular and live in Greece.
