I am a native British English speaker who has been living and working in France for the past five years.
My academic background is in both arts and sciences. As far back as high school I couldn't decide whether I wanted to be an artist, or a scientist, so I studied Maths and Physics and English at A level. I then went on to study for a BA in Psychology (1988) followed by an MSc in Computing Science (2000).
My working life has been equally varied. Fresh out of university, I was lucky enough to be selected for the Foreign Office where I worked for the next ten years. In 2009 homesickness drew me back to the United Kingdom where I studied for my MSc and then worked for a research project in the School of Computing Science at Newcastle University. After a brief period as a freelance web developer in the UK, I moved to France where I joined Orange (France Telecom) as a software engineer (ingénieur d'études).
Although I am fairly new to the world of translation and editing, I love the way the work enables me to use my scientific and academic background. It's great to finally be able to work in the worlds of both arts and science.
I specialise in editing and proofreading academic texts in English from native and non-native science writers, and in French to English translation.
