Born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa. I graduated from Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) (formely Technikon Pretoria) with a National Teachers Diploma (Technical) and Higher Diplomas in Civil Engineering as well as Engineering Surveying. I started my working life off in Civil Eng. and Eng. Surveying at various mass concrete, large dam structures with the Department of Water Affairs, eg Van Der Kloof Dam.
Until my retirement from fulltime employment in 2008, I have been a senior lecturer and head of the department (HoD) Geomatics, Engineering faculty, for 35 years at TUT. Originally both Afrikaans and English were used as official languages in the university and all communication as well as lecturing was offered in both languages. It was therefore necessary to translate all documents from the one to the other language on a constant basis. Since 2004 only English became the official language. I am therefore fluent in both Afrikaans and English.
As a senior Lecturer I was always involved in setting, translation and marking of lecturing notes, various subject study guides, study notes, examination papers and memoranda. As HoD I was involved in proofreading and approval of all examination papers set by lecturing staff in the department of Geomatics. I wrote and presented a number of technical and technical education papers throughout my career.
I was still involved in part time lecturing at TUT in various geomatics subjects and modules until July 2011.
I am not ready to - and do not intend to just sit around doing nothing as I am sure that my experience and skills could still be beneficial in doing translating work from home. I am sure that ProZ.com is the ideal vehicle for me to stay active and be of service to their vast number of satisfied clients. |
