What is pharmacology? Pharmacology is the study of drugs and how it interact with living systems.
What is drug?Drug is defined as any substances used for the purpose of diagnosis, prevention, relief, or cure of a disease in man or animal.
All drugs posess a chemical name or generic name and one or many trade name or brand name. The chemical name is drugs chemical composition and molecular structurefor eg. 2,4,2-methyl propyl phenyl propionic acid. Generic name or the non proprietary name is the international non proprietary name given to a pharmaceutical substance. A drug have only one generic name but may have many trade names for eg. Ibuprofen. Trade name or proprietary name is the drug registered trademark.Use of the trade name is restricted by the drugs owner, usually the manufacturer. Drug may have many trade name for eg. Motrin is the trade name of Ibuprofen.
Drugs are available in various dosage forms like tablets. A tablet is the mixture of active substances and excipients, usually in powder form, pressed or compacted into a solid. A tablet can be scored or cross scored. Capsules is a small gelatinous case enclosing a dose of medication.
Injectables, Drugs are injected into the body usually with a hollow needle and syringe. Syrup is a concentrated solution of sugar in water used as a mode to deliver the drugs.
Suspensions; A suspensions is a heterogenous fluid containing solid particles that are sufficiently large for sedimentation.
Few more terminology used in the study of drug are excipient; a substance that is combined with a drug in order to make it suitable for administration.Excipients should have no pharmacological action themselves.

Todos los fármacos poseen un nombre químico o nombre genérico y uno o múltiples nombres comerciales o marcas. El nombre genérico es el nombre internacional dado a una sustancia farmacéutica. Un fármaco tiene solo un nombre genérico pero puede tener múltiples nombres comerciales p. ej. . Ibuprofen. El nombre comercial es la marca registrada del fármaco. El uso de la marca registrada esta restringido por los dueños del fármaco, usualmente, quienes lo manufacturan.
