Over the past decade co-firing, where energy is produced through burning a combination of both coal and biomass (reducing CO2 emissions without reducing the amount of energy produced) has seen huge growth.
This technology is key to reducing the environmental impact of fossil fuels while protecting existing reserves and guaranteeing energy supply.
The UK is committed to making these changes with the government recently pledging £12 million to help cover the costs of biomass development and installation.
At the same time the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has already allocated £55 million to establish biomass power stations, with the UK planning to source 15 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020.
