Chris, I want to clarify that Pastey is a tool designed to assist, not replace, human translators. We always emphasize the importance of checking for AI errors, including what we call hallucinations. We would never misrepresent what Pastey can do. And nobody has ever suggested that Pastey equals translation.

Please refrain from spreading misconceptions. It's becoming quite tiresome.

No membership renewal for me May 28

I have been a paying member for many years, but the development of ProZ in recent times has been very disappointing. What bothers me the most is the non-responsiveness of the moderators, the fact that criticism is hardly accepted and the fixation on AI.

What I do like and find helpful is KudoZ (even more so since ChatGPT stopped participating!), and the forums themselves. But when the moderators remain silent about problems and questions that are addressed directly to them, this is annoying and - frankly speaking - also quite arrogant (see for example https://www.proz.com/forum/prozcom_technical_support/367558-contact_me_link_doesnt_work.html).

So no renewal for me.

I'm not spreading misconceptions. I've sat through half an hour of you demonstrating how to paste chunks of text into Pastey so that it can automatically paste it for you into ChatGPT, which saves exactly zero time over pasting it straight into ChatGPT. I'm sure whoever created Pastey had fun doing so, but I think it is clunky, amateurish and pointless.

No self-respecting translator should be having anything to do with AI rewrites, and every fact search using Pastey still has to be refined ad nauseam manually, so you might as well start in ChatGPT. And then the results have to be double-checked on Google anyway, so you might as well have started on Google, and I would advise all translators to do just that.

I'm sorry you find my opinion tiresome, but the product you are promoting is not going to "jumpstart" anybody's translation, and I see it as my duty to the translation community to continue to speak out against misleading claims about AI and other technology that undermine the standing of the professional human translator.

While this would probably be one of the most useful tools here on ProZ, it seems that the program is no longer being taken care of.
Instead, there are an indefinite number of search features to look for professionals, which is absolutely counter-productive.
Examples are:
ProZ Find, https://www.proz.com/find (this is the same as "Screened Professionals" in the same "Jobs" menu).
From the Find page, you have the option to go to this search feature: https://www.proz.com/find?pre=y
The directory, https://www.proz.com/translator-directory/
The mentioned Connect feature, https://search.proz.com/connect (with the old web design, and settings with again new and better design here https://search.proz.com/employers/settings - note the Connect path in a tiny green stripe below the main menu).

I'd never even noticed this feature before. I've just checked mine and have several messages that I've obviously never read during my 5 or 6 years of being a member. Surely a notification should be emailed to you to let you know you have a message? And indeed, why so many different search features and ways to contact a translator? Seems unnecessarily convoluted.

As a business, your primary goal must be customer satisfaction, and that means knowing their needs and taking them seriously, and remediating to failures. Otherwise, the boat will inevitably sink.
The silence here on such serious issues speaks volumes.

It's quite telling that the only reaction from a Proz staff member addresses some harmless sarcastic comment instead of the justified frustrations dripping from numerous member contributions.

I have never heard of this feature either and am now horrified to discover I've received dozens of quote requests over the past several years that I had no idea even existed. This is absolutely something that should be high on the list of ProZ improvements!

For OP: nobody can answer your question, only you can. You need to gauge your own variables and see what's best for you.

I understand that. But I am not a developer or involved in any programming, so I can't speak to those issues.

Christoph's post was clearly ironic, but as stated in a previous post of mine, Pastey's actual usefulness needs to be verified, and most importantly, it can't take precedence over blatant malfunctions and KEY SERVICES and FEATURES that we pay for but don't work, meaning a huge loss of business opportunities.

And it doesn't take precedence. Neither the developer of Pastey nor myself are involved in any of those services or features affected. We're 40+ people on the team and as in any company, we work in different departments. And Pastey happens to be one of the many offerings. So that's what I work on and talk about.

As a business, your primary goal must be customer satisfaction, and that means knowing their needs and taking them seriously, and remediating to failures.

I'd argue that we do take it seriously. Very much so. I know of plenty of projects that have been put on hold to solve these issues first. As for the silence, from what I've seen, there have been answers from the team. Yana recently chimed in, though I am not sure on which post that was.

Yes, that communication can be summarized as: "The migration went kind of wrong and we are doing everything we can to solve the issues", followed by "We have solved issue X", followed by "No, you haven't", endless repeat. You may call that "answers", but I can't.

If you want to maintain customer satisfaction in a crisis situation (I firmly believe this is exactly in which Proz is involved at the moment) you have to be open about the progress made or not made about the issues. Communication about that: almost inexistant. Probably because at Proz no one really knows how to get out of this mess (otherwise we would already have been out of it, and probably for a long time), but perhaps it's time to be open about it. Keeping people in the dark that are paying over hundred dollars a year isn't very nice.

I'm not sure what Proz thinks to achieve by remaining deaf and silent about the ongoing issues (especially the "newer" issue about non-received emails), while frustrations among the users continue to grow. I can only think of "damage control", which would be another sign of how seriously in trouble this website is. It's bad publicity and on top of that a loss of money because more members decide to stop their subscription after years of membership.

But then again, how many people are complaining here? 10? 11? I guess it's easier to ignore them than to communicate openly and regularly while generating more attention than desired to the severe malfunctions of this website.

We're 40+ people on the team and as in any company, we work in different departments.

And you don't speak to each other?

There is a very serious issue here that hasn't been addressed. Members have missed out on work by not receiving these messages, and their reputations may have taken a knock when they failed to reply to them.

The total value of the work lost could be huge.

This is a critical issue and ProZ should be (a) acknowledging it, (b) throwing all available resources at it, and (c) sending out the big man to grovel and apologise and make promises about it never happening again and assure us that he's taking personal charge and that ProZ cares about its members and would be nothing without us, etc, etc.

The recent Post Office scandal in the UK says all you need to know about the dangers of sweeping things under the carpet.

Businesses May 29

Online businesses/e-commerce stores pay hundreds of thousands dollars for marketing and administration and still have ocassional patches, bugs and lost opportunities. It happens and it’ll continue to happen, even to those who use bots to grab jobs. Aren’t there tons of lost opportunites for me if a “colleague” is using a script or a bot to grab jobs? Where to report that?
