Well, jyuan, I have heard of many scams that have began with collecting the bank details someone has lost at a ATM, for instance.
On the other hand, I didn't mention what question I adressed to the PM It wasn't certainly about a potential scam, but about another doubt.
A PM is a worker. I have been one myself, so I know a good PM has to be on good terms both with clients and pros. Why don't answer then? It smells more and more fishy to me.

Of course I provide my banking information in a contract.
A different story would be one of those online forms that simply gather all kinds of information from private home phone to shoe size. Those forms are not contracts and at this point my favorite financial institution is none of their business.

Just one thing to point out about the Fed warning: it's a different story in Europe than it is in the US, and the main reason is that checks are still in use in the US. I do most of my business in Germany these days, and there, it is perfectly common and normal to have your banking information on your business letterhead, simply because no one can do anything with it but send money really.
US, totally different story, any shmuck with a printer can buy one of those "check printing" software packs that go for about $19.99 at OfficeMax, including a nice set of security check paper sheets in assorted colors, and unlike in most EU countries, you can actually do some damage with these if you have the ACC/ABA numbers.
Rule of thumb, I guard my US account numbers like a chain dog, my German number is on my German letterhead for everyone to see.
The real question you have to ask yourself is what could a potential adversary do with that information in the banking system you are in.

In general I never give my bank account details unless I know the company and there is an invoice. For some reason they say in Spain it's dangerous to give away your bank details, but it's a must when you do some business of course. This company I mentioned has never replied to my question, so I haven't sent the contract. It's clear for me that even if it's not a scam, this company doesn't look trustworthy. Thank you all!
