Hi all,

You may want to check out the new Transit support in MemoQ 3.5. I use it for some weeks with my Transit PXFs, and I find it a way more convenient than the Transit environment

Cheers,

Laszlo

How does it look like? Apr 14, 2009

It is, isn't it?
I do not use MemoQ on a day to day basis, but I like the interface very much. Could you tell us how the Transit support in MemoQ exactly looks like? Is the whole PXF automatically unzipped and are both parts of the language pair imported, so you will have the fuzzy matches that Transit inserts?

The main drawback of my workaround with Deja Vu X is that I can only import the target part of the language pairs and in files with a lot of stuff already translated, I have to look for the segments that still need to be done. So I actually end up with having Transit Satellite open on my second screen, jumping from one unfinnished segment to the next one and then looking them up in DVX. One might wonder why on earth I am doing this, but I would not miss AutoAssemble (or the similar function MemoQ offers) for the world.

Transit NXT new build 4.0.0.671 Apr 14, 2009

Star released a new build of Transit NXT: 4.0.0.671 (previous one was 4.0.0.595).
I wonder if anybody tested MemoQ with files from this new build or not?

Selcuk

The process is quite similar to using Transit Satellite:
- The PXF is extracted, and it becomes a MemoQ project, with translatable files included.
- The reference materials in PXF and the translated segments of your translatable documents are inserted to a TM of your choice.
- Unfortunately, Termstar termbases are not supported
- You can map the Transit segment statuses (Spell Checked, Checked 1 etc.) to MemoQ statuses (Confirmed, Proofread), and when Exporting, the MemoQ statuses are mapped again to Transit statuses.
- When you finished your translation, you can export to a TXF, which really looks like the one created with Transit Satellite

So you'll have all the fuzzy matches you need, and based on statuses, you can simply jump to the next segment that needs your attention.
I found it quite intuitive, mainly because MemoQ treats repetitions much better than Transit

I haven't upgraded to NXT yet, still working with XV, as soon as I upgrade (well, it may take some weeks...) I'll let you know.

This question might fit the MemoQ support group better, but I hope I'm not making a mistake by replying. NB, I work for Kilgray (the developer of MemoQ) and was involved in the design and testing of the Transit support.

Your question made me curious. Are you aware of some expected change in the latest build of Transit NXT that might break compatibility? As far as I was able to test this, there isn't any problem with files created in the latest build of NXT. The Transit file formats have been quite stable for many years, so I don't expect any abrupt changes. For example, we have recently received a package with some ancient reference files from maybe 2004 that imported just fine into MemoQ.

Regards,
Gergely Vandor

There might be a problem! Apr 22, 2009

I have successfully worked with the Transit Satellite edition since 2006, but the last two PXF files I received wouldn't open. I believe there must have been a recent change in the format. You might want to try to find some PXF files from the latest build and see if they still open.

Or better yet, I will download MemoQ 3.5 today and report back later. I have two potential projects right now that I can't open.

--> I have contemplated purchasing Transit NXT, but I hear that one must fly to Switzerland and submit to an interview with the people at Star GmbH before they will even consider selling the product. Once that stage is completed, they begin price negotiations and require submission of three years of financial statements plus a detailed statement of interest and three professional references. Then the software is shipped a month later if you are accepted. ;--)

Just to report back... Apr 23, 2009

I installed MemoQ 3.5 today.

One of the problematic PXFs (in the Transit Satellite edition) generated the following error message when I tried to open it with MemoQ (it looks like there was a problem with the ZIP document, and I can't say for sure that the PXF file wasn't corrupted):

***
TYPE:
ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.Zip.ZipException

MESSAGE:
central directory not found, probably not a zip file

The other PXF file seemed to open correctly in MemoQ.

corrupted file probably Apr 26, 2009

If the PXF file doesn't open in Satellite, it is almost certainly because it is corrupted. Please ask you client to verify this first. I don't think Star is making abrupt changes to the format and suddenly introduce incompatibilities.

Your assumption is right: the error message you pasted here says that the file is not a valid ZIP archive. (On the basic level, PXF files are ZIP archives containing a number of files.)

And to be fair about NXT, Star seemed to have problem

And to be fair about NXT, Star seemed to have problems shipping it at first, but that seems to be solved now.
