bard

It is sometimes hard to identify Welsh words in isolation because of a number of linguistic processes that can affect a word depending on the surrounding sounds. My guess for this word is that it is 'bard' or 'poet' (Welsh 'bardd' or 'beirdd') with 'yn' or something coming before it. If you gives a little more context, especially the imeediately preceding word, we can give you a definative answer.

I should say though, that I think you are right that it is Welsh.

Peer comment(s):

agree Will Matter : think it's Welsh also, looked for 'mardd' myself, 'bardd' kept appearing, more context wouldn't hurt...

agree lacplesis : Yes, I guess, this is an eclipsed / nasalized "bardd"

Right, the term used in Welsh language studies is 'mutation'.

Comment: " Jason Roberts, Thank you so much, your answer was most helpful.The question I asked came from a dream actually.I was talking to a bird (weird, I know)who said "My name is mardd".The "my name is" part was in English, and I surfed the net to see from what language "mardd" might be. I just found that it might be from "Ill A Gant",which I think might be a welsh dialect. Please e-mail me if that info is relevent to more of an explanation. Thank You! [email protected] "
