Can anyone help me with the meaning of "gün" in Article 80 of the new Turkish Criminal Code (no. 5237):
"....en kimseye sekiz yıldan oniki yıla kadar hapis ve onbin güne kadar adli para cezası verilir."
A fine is normally expressed in monetary terms. Could "gün" simply mean günlük" = day's wages" ? Thank you for any suggestions.

You are correct, it is in regard to a fine determined by the court pegged by manhours.

It could also be a flat fine for 10,000 days also, not necessarily based on manhours. It would depend on the context of the court.

I agree with the answer already given. I just thought this explanation would be useful (from the webpage quoted below):
Yeni Ceza Kanunun da benimsenen gün-para cezası sistemi ile,
İlk olarak; işlenen suç nedeniyle kaç gün karşılığında para cezasına hükmedileceğine ilişkin BEŞ GÜN den az olmamak ve YEDİYÜZOTUZ GÜN den fazla olmamak üzere gün birimi belirlenecektir.
İkinci olarak;en az YİRMİ ve en fazla YÜZ Türk Lirası olan bir gün karşılığı adli para cezasının miktarını,mahkeme şahsın ekonomik ve şahsi hallerini göz önünde bulundurarak takdir edecektir.
Üçüncü olarak ta;gün birimi sayısı ile bir gün karşılığı para cezası miktarı çarpılarak adli para cezasının miktarı belirlenecektir.
Yeni sistemde,adli para cezası ilke olarak hapis cezası ile birlikte değil,bu cezaya alternatif olarak uygulanacaktır.
