How to Register as an Employer

To register as an employer, you must complete an employer registration form in order that we may determine if you are liable under the New York State Unemployment Insurance Law. If you are determined liable, we will send you quarterly combined withholding, wage reporting and unemployment insurance returns for reporting wages paid to your employees.

To register:

Before you register with us, you must obtain a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) from the Internal Revenue Service. If you need a FEIN, you can download an application (Form SS4) (click here) or apply on-line (click here) at the I.R.S. website. You can also obtain an application by calling the I.R.S. at 1-800-829-3676. For general information about the Internal Revenue Service, visit www.irs.gov.
