A report mentions the "bandeja de vías" area of Renfe's Santa Catalina maintenance facilities in Madrid.
"Una vez allí, los maquinistas de RENFE estacionaron el tren en la vía nº X de la zona denominada “bandeja de vías”."
A recently arrived train in need of repairs was parked in the "bandeja de vías" area outside the shops, late at night, presumably so it could be taken into the shops the next day for work. I can't find any mentions of "bandeja de vías" anywhere, but could it be the same as "playa de vías"? That would certainly fit the context.

Comment: "Thanks very much. BTW, I wrote to the owner of the "playa de vías" to ask the same question and never got an answer (not much surprise there), but I'm still curious why they use this term instead of "playa de vías". Maybe a question of scale?"
