I would say though, even if you can recover them to smokability they might not be worth smoking. I find rehumidified cigars to taste bland and stale.

agree neilmac : At least "re-humidified" sounds better than "remoistened" in my effort...

neutral Barbara Cochran, MFA : Agree w/David that the literal translation is probably too technical for the context, and that is why I only mentioned it as an aside, in the first place, when I posted my answer early this morning.

The original deliberately refers to the technical term (vuelto a humedecer) and not some "non-technical" term for stale such as seco, or viejo.

re-smoked

The literal translation of "vuelto a humedecer" would be "re-moistened/moistened again"... However, I think it means lit and relit in this case (as in moistened by the lips of the smokers).

"The bar smelled of dry and re-smoked cigars"

And "vuelto a humedecer" also evokes a whiff of damp, stale air.

So, I might consider adding something just to get the feel right, for example:
"The bar, musty and damp, smelled of dry and re-smoked cigars..."
Example sentence:

The bar smelled of dry and re-smoked cigars

The bar had an odour of dry and re-smoked cigars

"vuelto a humedecer" seems to refer to re-humidified or re-hydrated cigars, which is a process that is used to revitalize dried-out cigars that have remained unused over a period of time

agree neilmac : I like "dried-out, stale".... although "re-humidified" is a contender...
