Medical
treatment for tendinosis
This is on a text involving the use of growth factors (GFs) in the treatment of tendon problems. This treatment is listed as an alternative:
"Como alternativa, se puede realizar escarificaciones percut¨¢neas del foco del tendinosis con una aguja EV."
Everything I can find indicates that the idea is to *avoid* scarring...so I don't think "scarring" is it.
Please, the text I am "editing" [retranslating!]is already so poorly translated, do not suggest alternatives unless you truly know something about this field of medicine...I do not think I could bear it after what I've been reading lately. ;-)

: Yes. Terry, in the case of tendinitis, the scarification is made on the tendon to promote revitalization -it's not a process related to "scarring" at all, as you well point out :-)

In reply to your additional request....... yes, "scarification" is the medical term
Ital J Orthop Traumatol. 1976 Apr;2(1):5-21. A new approach to the pathology, clinical features and treatment of stress tendinopathy of the Achilles tendon. Perugia L, Ippolitio E, Postacchini F.
On the basis of clinical, anatomical, surgical, histological and pathological investigations, the authors propose a classification of the tendinopathies of the Achilles tendon associated with stress. These are particularly common in the field of sport. Three syndromes are identified: a) pure peritendinitis; b) peritendinitis associated with tendinosis; c) pure tendinosis. The symptoms and possible complications are described and the problem of treatment is discussed. In pure peritendinitis tenolysis is recommended, but in peritendinitis associated with tendinosis it should be combined with extensive **scarification** of the tendon in order to promote revitalisation.
Rozhl Chir. 1990 Dec;69(12):828-32. Surgical treatment of chronic pain in the area of the Achilles tendon. Kania R, Kratky R.
In 109 patients with painful Achilles tendons 139 primary operations were made. Peritenonectomy and **scarification** of the tendon were performed. As a criterium of success the ability to pursue the original sports activities was used. Of 109 subjects addressed 91 responded......

Shortening of the temporalis tendon for hypermobility of the temporomandibular joint. Gould JF.
Temporalis shortening by **scarification** is a relatively simple procedure and deserves further clinical testing, although the initial limitation of mouth opening shows some tendency to diminish. Its relative simplicity could make it the preferred procedure for unacceptable late joint snapping associated with TMJ hypermobility and for recurrent dislocation.

Discussion
Scarification it is...now, the only problem is how to divide up the points?? Aargh...we should be able to contribute a few of our own to share!!
Also, as to Claudia's answer, this is subcutaneous, so I am not certain this is the correct term for this context...it might well be, but I'd like to confirm. (I guess I'm a little too detail-oriented, sometimes.) :-)
