El medico me recomendo un esquema de tratamiento, y yo segui sus consejos.
Pero ahora me doy cuenta de que yo estaba simplemente cumpliendo las formalidades, y que realmente no me habia informado bien sobre mis opciones de tratamiento.
I understand the meaning of "cumpliendo formalidades," but am not sure how to put it into colloquial, natural English. Could it be something like "going through the motions"?
