Spanish term

entrono

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general)

Is this a typo? I've never run into this word before and it's not in the RAE, though it does appear all over the web in various contexts.

Discussion

Phoebe Anne Jan 5, 2011:
Exactly! it sounded "entorno" to me too.
Dr. Jason Faulkner (asker) Jan 5, 2011:
That's what I was thinking, but I see it all over the web in pretty reliable sources (though the context makes it hard to figure out what they mean here), so I'm hoping for a little input before I write it off as a typo.
Emma Goldsmith Jan 5, 2011:
Looks like "entorno" to me.

It's definitely a typo. If you're worried because there are lots of references to "entrono" on the Internet, just open a few that you find on Google and you will see they are all typos.

e.g.
EL ENTRONO MACROECONÓMICO (later referred to as "el entorno macroeconómico")

LA RELACION DEL NIÑO CON EL ENTRONO NATURAL Y SOCIAL (later referred to as "el entorno natural y social")

Note from asker:
Thanks Emma. I guess that about settles it. There were so many typos in that report, I was ready to pull my hair out. I just couldn't let go of the possibility that I was missing something.

Thanks Constantinos :)
agree Muriel Vasconcellos : I think it's a fairly common mistake - along the lines of George Bush's 'nucular'

Thanks Muriel :)
agree Filippe Vasconcellos de Freitas Guimarães : I'm with Muriel! And I'd go one further and translate "mostrando agitación y agresividad con entrono" simply as "agitated and combative".

surroundings

Entiendo que el contenido original sería "entorno", lo cual haría que "surroundings" exprese mejor el sentido de ubicación espacial de una persona cuyas condiciones físicas y anímicas están expresadas en el párrafo citado.
Peer comment(s):

agree Emma Goldsmith : Yes, you're definitely right. I was so busy thinking about the typo that I forgot to give the English sufficient thought.
