"Anticipo" means "advance/early payment".

It means that some businesses must pay their taxes early - any over-payments are then refunded later once calculated. Being exempt means that a business will have greater liquidity. Good explanation here (although it's Belgium!): https://books.google.es/books?id=oiX1O5Ss3HcC&pg=PA143&lpg=P...

Note from asker:
Thanks Edward. However, I need to know what "anticipo" means in this context. |
Sure, that's the translation. I mean, what is the difference between a regular "income tax" and the "Anticipo al impuesto a la renta"? |

Estimated tax payments

When To Pay Estimated Taxes
For estimated tax purposes, the year is divided into four payment periods. Each period has aspecific payment due date. If you do not pay enough tax by the due date of each of the payment periods, you may be charged a penalty even if you are due a refund when you file your income tax return, see underpayment of tax below for more information.
Saludos.

Respuesta a Henry Hinds:

: In the US tax system, anything paid prior to the final determination is an estimated tax payment.
