Spanish term

rebelde

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law (general) Spanish court case
In a Spanish court case, the prosecutor lists the persons indicted, and for one of them it puts only:

PERSON'S NAME, REBELDE

and then goes on to the next person. All the others have more information about their criminal records, DOB, etc. I see that "rebeldía" can mean "in contempt of court", but I am not sure that this is what is meant here. Please help.

Discussion

Liliana Galiano Feb 26, 2010:
I suppose 'in contempt of court' is a general expression and the one most widely used, I just wanted to point out 'rebeldía' as meaning 'nonappearance' in this case.
David Hollywood Feb 26, 2010:
I think you're right here :)

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "In think in this case, it is logical that the accused person failed to appear for the hearing, which of course is a type of contempt of court. Thanks so much"
