Spanish term

webeo

Spanish to English Other IT (Information Technology) internet slang
More or less I know it refers to getting useful software tools for and from the web etc., but is there a direct translation in English?

Discussion

if that ONE user was a Venezuelan (as I am), he was probably being funny, coining a term related to the web but which sounds like a 4-letter word...
Gary Smith Lawson (asker) Oct 22, 2008:
context Hmm...looks like we need more context. It's for a multinational mobile/cell phone company that connects people (;.)), and basically it's a list of comments by their users on "why they entered into the website". One of the users has simply put "webeo". Nothing else.

checking webs/ surfing the net

En Argentina en lenguaje coloquial decimos "huevear" o "hacer huevo" cuando hacemos algo sin un fin determinado (cuando estamos aburridos por ejemplo. Básicamente es no hacer nada, el típico "hanging" en inglés). El término "webear" sería mirar webs sin objetivo puntual, como "ir paseando" por la red.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Nobody was actually wrong here, so I'll say this because my finally solution was "general web surfing" and VF also mentioned the other meaning of "huevear". Thanks everybody!"

Use the internet

I believe webeo is the present tense of webear, which is slang for using the internet. I don't believe there is a direct translation for this term.

After Gary's comment, perhaps a better term in this instance would be:

CHECKING OUT THE WEB (SITE)

IN THE CASE YOU ARE DESCRIBING, IT SEEMS LIKE THE USER IS SAYING HIS REASON FOR USING THIS SERVICE WAS TO SURF THE NET.
