This is from a synopsis of a text about an art show in Venezuela in the 90s that attempted to address problems of colonialism and regional identity:
El texto —elaborado dos años antes de que ocurriera la revisión del proceso colonizador del continente (en 1992, durante la celebración de los 500 años de la llegada de Cristóbal Colón a América)— propone una (re)consideración del fenómeno con la necesaria distancia de las leyendas negra y dorada.
I am not sure whether this is a generic reference, something like "dark and golden legends" (that is, two simplistic visions of the colonial era) or a specific reference.
Thanks!

the black and golden legends
Quite literally. The "leyenda negra" is historical writing that demonises Spain (or that Spaniards consider demonises Spain), specifically during the so-called "Golden Age" (the Hapsburg period); the "leyenda dorada", apart from being a famous medieval book of hagiography by Jacobus de Voragine, is also the contrary to the "leyenda negra", the other side of the coin: writing that idealises Spain. This is particularly relevant to the conquest and colonisation of Latin America, but not only.
The literal translations, black legend and golden legend, are normally used in English (I know this from personal experience).
