En tiempos de los Reyes Católicos, la distinción de "Contino" se concedía a cada uno de los cien soldados de la Guardia Real que velaban continuamente "de contino" por los monarcas y su familia. El fiel Contino Don Pedro de Samaniego (Capitán de la Guardia Real que se encargaba de la protección del príncipe Don Juan, vástago de los Reyes llamados por la posteridad "Católicos": Isabel y Fernando)...

Sé que en la corte británica existía una figura similar: los "golden stick" y los "silver stick". Aunque quizás no cumplan exactamente las mismas funciones también puede ser un buen equivalente como título, en lugar de utilizar "royal bodyguard" que no deja de ser una breve definición.
