This is a small text on mortgage and loans.
Context
Hacia 1930, el 50 % de los inmuebles del país estaban gravados a su favor (a favor del banco).

Fernando, entiendo que si el banco es el "lender" sería el "mortgagee".
The person who borrows the money is known as the mortgagor and the lender is the mortgagee. (The Law of Property. P.W.D. Redmond)

Fernando, esto es lo mismo que decir "hipotecado", por tanto creo que Marina ha dado en el clavo, aunque el banco es el "mortgagor" (el prestamista) not "mortgagee" (el hipotecado que paga sus mensualidades).

disagree trnet : Perdón, pero aquí no hay nada de impuestos, solo créditos que en todo caso son hipotecarios. El problema es que "gravamen" es imposición fiscal y como vemos se presta a varias intrepretaciones.

Entiendo que el banco o los bancos resultaban ser los acreedores hipotecarios, esto es, por lo de "gravado a su favor"...
